Poll question: Do you do your own taxes or have them done??
I normally have done them myself but I am tempted to have a CPA do them...

2. Last Year Was My First Time With a CPA
because of new rental property. Before that, it was tax software.

9. You went to a CPA instead of a certified tax preparer? You should re-think
that.

A public accountant isn't as qualified as a tax preparation expert, someone who takes classes, updates software and knows tax code inside out, upside, backwards, forwards and in their sleep.

10. I Take That Back
I actually don't know if he's a CPA. Has his own practice. But the poll seemed to be asking whether we used a professional preparer.

4. I go to H&R Block
I'd rather pay them their fee to do it rather than do it myself and be all stressed out that I've made an honest error that the IRS will find decades from now and then I'll owe them $7,000,000 in penalties and fees. I really fear that.

5. Too complicated for me --
Foreign income, my house being rented out back home, belonging to three companies (in same corporate family) in one year, etc., etc.

Not to mention that screaming at TurboTax reveals a side of my personality I'd prefer to keep under wraps.

6. Good GAWD, we're talkin' a 1040-EZ here...
Don't need to pay HR Blockenhead $50 for 10 minute's work.

Did Tele-file. Took less than 12 minutes, and I had the pay-off on that interest-free loan I give Dumbya every year back in a week.

7. I've always done my own taxes ever since I started working at 17.

They are pretty easy to do considering we have no special accounts, investments, or other income that's not earned. I've been doing the 1040A for the past couple of years now. We don't do anything too crazy. We've taken some education/student loan interest deductions, child tax credit, credit for dependent care expenses. That's about it. I always keep a copy of our taxes along with the w-2's and any other tax documents I used when completing the taxes.

8. we pay a colleague of mine who used to do volunteer work
for VITA to do them. Never had a problem. It's very reasonable.
