Need help with Trojan virus-
Not sure how I got it, but it is a "Trojan Dropper," a pretty low-level virus. Norton caught it and supposedly deleted it, but the next time I tried to update at microsoft (using IE) it came back. I usually use Mozilla, and it hasn't been a problem with Mozilla.

It immediately starts trying to call up web sites: one a site called "Sex n Poker" and the other one called All spyware.org.

How could Norton supposedly delete it and then it immediately is there again? Is my IE program infected, and how do I get rid of my IE program completely?

1. Norton is worse than worthless.

Norton lulls people into believing that they're safe, which is worse than NOT believing that you're safe. Get AVG ( http://www.grisoft.com ) and use it (it's free), and then delete Norton.

7. Thanks. Any idea where I may have
picked this virus up? And I'm pissed that Norton didn't catch it as it was coming in!

turn off system restore if your using WinXP or god forbid WinME

Run AVG & once you test clean turn System Restore back on.

Symantec puts Tons of $ into pushing Norton Anti-virus but it's performance is just so so.

AVG 7.0 free edition from Grisoft is much better.

Also go to Control Panel - Folder Options and un-hide your hidden folders before you scan.

Good Luck !

3. System restore?
Do you have System Restore turned on, and did you turn it off while Norton repaired things? If not, try turning off System Restore, running Norton again and letting Norton repair whatever it finds.

Some trojans can hide in System Restore, then re-infect you once you think you've gotten rid of it.

PS-Do not get rid of IE completely. You need it to download stuff from Microsoft sites. Although you might want to download and try using Mozilla Firefox as your main browser. It isn't succeptable to all the stuff that IE is. I have both IE and Firefox on my machine, with Firefox as my default browser. I love it.

6. I don't think I had system restore
turned off before scanning. Thanks for the help.
