My son skipped church last night...
He has been going to Wednesday night church with his grandfather. They have activities for the kids on Wednesday night...anyway, he played hooky from church. He and his best friend went to the playground instead.

His friend got grounded. He won't be going back. He got kind of pissed at Sunday School this past Sunday, when his Sunday School teacher told his class that "There is a War against Abortion." His class has kids from 8-11 in it. My kid replied that the bible doesn't say anything about abortion. I guess he's on the church blacklist now. :7

He won't be going back.

4. They haven't banned me yet...
although I haven't tried to go back since shortly after my divorce, when they ostracized me because I was divorced.

I go to Church of the Pine Trees and Babbling Creek now...my spirituality is boosted just by walking out my back door into the beautiful nature that surrounds me. :-)

6. I often wondered why
They made people go inside buildings when there was so much wonder and joy outside. Then I realised, they want you focused on the wonder and joy they have written in their book. Whether its true or not.

10. I think you are right.
And it's difficult to institutionalize nature and take "nature donations." Easy to build new, gargantuan buildings and then beg for money (I think they call it "tithes." ;-) )

3. Maddy, there you are again, making good sense.

I'm only hunching and guessing from a distance here, but I say your son and his friend would be better spending an hour or two with you than three years at the church.

I prefer a world where kids hang out with parents who have got it together. You definitely seem to qualify.

Next week, "home church" your son.

7. You have made my brain
start clicking and whirring with that statement. Maybe dems should start "home schooling" and "home churching" our kids and rephrasing any statements we make just like the repugs do. They couldn't fight us if we used their own ammo against their stupidity.

I'm proud of you Maddy. You are raising your son to do his part to piss off the religious right.

11. Ya know, it does piss me off that the Religious Right claims that...
kids like mine are being raised without morals. Indeed, he IS being raised with morals...just not the same ones they try to inculcate and indoctrinate in their kids.

Nothing scares them more than a spiritual person who is comfortable with his or her spirituality and perfectly capaable of backing up his or her beliefs.

And, no amount of their indoctrination will ever destroy the values I have taught my kiddo. :-)

13. Bravo
I certainly hope you continue to teach him how to piss them off. I feel that is a moral duty for the truly moral people in the world. If right wing zealots aren't pissed off, then they are busy destroying somebody's life. It's best to keep them busy. What is that saying? Idle hands are the devils play things. Well, it could apply to tiny little microscopic repug brains as well. If we keep them fuming and unable to repeat the slogan the last dittohead said, we can spread a better love based morality much more easily.

8. I am kind of "the mom" in his group of friends...
They like to spend time here. I take them to do things they enjoy and I try to keep a home that is kid-friendly.

Thank you SO MUCH for the nice compliments! You made my day.
