I respect and like the old island stuff, but I listen to the newer stuff. At least I'm not one of those kids who thinks Less Than Jake invented ska... when they barely play it.

Oh yeah, and I LOVE "The Skaskank Redemption", a new ska band I play trumpet in!

Any old timers out there? Should I list them on eBay? or keep them. the Count Owen has sold for over $ 100.00

If not, just sell them to someone who would appreciate them and get some money... sounds like a good plan to me.

Gwen Stefani isn't even that hot. Not a fan of No Doubt.

but I DO like ska in all its various incarnations. And in general I don't go loopy over scrawny blondes, but Gwen Stefani is a major exception to that rule...for me, anyway!

If The Great Desmond Dekker was present he would either slap you or merely shake his head in confusionh, haha...sorry but No Doubt is not ska....it just isn't. I love reggae rooted ska, where it all started, but I think that the true days of Ska have died just as with Punk....just my opinion of course, but any reasonable person from the generations would agree. Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, Eric Morris....they are what stand out in my mind among others, but not No Doubt, or The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, etc. Two tone ska was okay for it's time as well..just for the record

I like the older stuff and the British stuff from the 70s -80s and even some of the more modern stuff. I just love the horns.

They're an OK band, but they don't have that indefinable "ska magic" in my book.

I like the other stuff, but I prefer the energy and speed of most 3rd wave stuff. But not shit like Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake

Sublime Commentary

Sublime. Ska-Punk-Hip Hop-Rock-Reggae Blues at it's best. To call Sublime anything but that, would be limiting them. They can play it all. The music is there. The vocals are there. This band is just so tight, the production quality is about as dope as you get. The music, vocals, and the vibe combine for pumpin', pimpin', groovin', "kick back and pass the cheeba" tunes, that make ya feel okay. This band has talent, and they prove it. It's such a sad, sad shame that the lead singer, guitar player, Bradley Nowell, was a victim of his addiction. Brad was a brilliant man, and will be remembered by all who miss him.
