Anybody else have the problem of being wide awake until 6 AM, and then and only then are you ready for bed? Society pisses me off, because they revolve everything around daylight hours.

Of course, I have a theory that the reason I'm always awake real late (or early) is that it's so peaceful with all the idiots in my time zone asleep.

1. They Do! My Cousin Deals Blackjack In Reno...
A lot of jobs there are 24 hours though cuz of the casinos & casino workers. She gets home at 8 a.m. and sleeps til 3 or so, goes to work at 11:00. Since most of her friens work in casinos too, they're on the same schedule. They don't even think it's weird!

3. Not only that
Most people do not ever consider how inconvenienced those of us who work afternoons or night are when they're expected to then turn around and function during the day "just like everyone else."

We live in a 24-hour nation, so why is catering to the working hours of 1/3 of the total work force considered "doing things just like everybody else"?

Why can't banks be open at 3AM?
Why can't court proceedings take place at that hour?
Why can't kids go to school when it's convenient for their family structure?
Why can't I go buy a beer if I get out of work at 3AM one night- or every night? (I can't buy it before work, unless I get it home before I leave for work- no alcohol on the premesis, not even in my car!)

I could sit here all night and think of other examples. 9 to 5ers- you're the minority (no offense intended). So why are the rest of us expected to conform to both your hours and our own?

4. I think 9 to 5-ers are the majority...
which is why it's like that. But in some places (like Reno, Vegas) there are a lot of 24 hours services like you describe. Although I don't think kids ever go to school at 3:00 am.!

6. I've always wondered
if having 24-hour schooling would help maintain the family structure as a functional unit. Doing otherwise only seperates families, even when young children are involved. Sometimes, it's just not possible to pay for day care, or find a sitter.

24-hour schooling could change that, but there would be equally serious consequences that would have to be very closely considered before this could be tried even as an experiment in a community with families equally balanced between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift breadwinners.

I think it could work, but it would have to be very carefully done.

10. in addition...
why can't banks/credit cards take electronic payments or do business on weekends?

I hate that a due date will fall on a Sat. but I must pay it online two to three days prior...it's electronic, wtf? I like to pay shit on the day it's due, why give up my cash any earlier?

I too am an insomniac and have wished for a 24 hr post office, bank, mall, theater, museum, library, university, car wash, etc...

7. I go to sleep around 4 or 5
sometimes 6 ot 7 in the morning. For some reason I get energy in the afternoon and evening. I sleep less than 7 hours but people assume I am lazy because I get up just before noon. That is just the way it works for me. Have met a few others who are on the same schedule.

It is nice to stand outside in the totally quiet neghborhood and check out the stars every night. Also - there are people on DU 24 hours a day. TV is bad though - all "Paid Programming."

I'm a night owl; that's why I do my radio show overnights. I can't do the 9 to 5 thing; it'd kill me inside of a week..

9. 9to 5
I think is conditioned into us,from 5 years old or so onward

School up at dawn to bed early..every fucking day of your life, it's FORCED.Get up to the screaming alarm clock,go to bed even when you don't want to.At first it's up for school than it's up for the boss. Most people never question the diurnal domination over their lives..

I was always nocturnal.I can't help it.I have tried everything to try to fit into the diurnal way. and I can't my body won't let me. So I have given up..
Hell yes, it pisses me off how EVERYTHING revolves around daytime hours..

But think about it ,looks like some humans are still scared of the dark.

Tweak people like daylight because it makes them feel"safe".Alot of people are just daylight oriented by choice,by trauma,by body biology or this society imposed conditioning...

Stores like to be open in daylight so people can't steal stuff as easy..
I think People are the same as always, skeered of the dark. As kids every spook story illustrates how only crazy people go out in the scary dark..Most people I observe can't go out in the yard in the dark without a porch light on, they can't do squat in the dark without a flashlight on to give them eyes to see anything in dim light it seems.

I hate the light pollution,it has done alot of damage,to nature..to us..We have become Dependant on lights at night.Almost like people scared of the dark are trying try to make the world into daytime 24-7 to avoid being awake and living while it's dark..

And I hate you can't see the stars in the sky and the silvery moonlight anymore because it's always tainted by the sickly orange glow of streetlights. The cloudy sky on rainy nights glows orange because of all the light pollution.

I wish more people who have a natural nocturnal inclination would do what comes natural to them and say FUCK the alarm clock, the diurnal domination..I wish society would let them follow their own natures.
I wish more nocturnal people who decided to fuck the day life, opened up stores, banks coffee shops and all that stuff instead of bars and strip clubs..so we'd have a night that's alive too..

11. One night I biked some 60 miles to Madison, Wi
As I went down the road, it made me think, that you know you have reached civilisation when there is a store that is open 24 hours a day. Otherwise you are in the wilderness.
I used to bike in the dark all the time, and out in the country where there was almost no light except moonlight. I would pretend that I was Paul Revere on his midnight ride, only I would say "the Amish are coming, the Amish are coming".
Lots of times I get "busted" by the cops for shopping at night. After all, only criminals are out at night. I have never said to one "then what are you doing out at this hour?" In this town there are alot of people who do not know that Wal-mart is open 24/7, but it seems to be one of the few things that is. It used to be fun too, that when I stayed up most of the night, I could get "tomorrow's" paper at about 2 AM.
Light pollution is not ubiquitous though. I used to walk my dogs in Nora Springs, Iowa. Walking south of town, there is almost no light. In two blocks, I was "out in the country". Although I have lived most of my life in small towns, I was always blown away by how many stars there were in that sky.

13. let's do it!
the nocturnal commune! ;-)

I have been a night person since I was a kid as well. I get the 'lazy' bullshit too. I feel like I am making excuses when I qualify it with, 'I do chores at night, and sleep 7-8 hrs, just like everyone eles'

I get sleepy twice a day, no matter what time I get up...at about 4pm and at 3am. It would be a perfect world for me if I could get up at 11am, nap for an hour at 4pm, then go to bed at 4am. I am my most productive on that schedule.

12. I work 2nd shift 3-11pm
I'm always up till 3 or 4am, sleep till 10 or 11am. I hate it when I have an appointment early in the day. I hate answering the phone at 9:30am sounding sleepy and apologizing for it. . .

I work nights for goodness sake!!
