Can you reccommend any bands like Sigur Ros?

I've recently gotten into them. I like the space, dreamy sound they produce. I also like Mogwai. Any other bands I should look into? I'm pretty open to just about anything except I'm not into the heavy metal aspect of some of these groups.

MBV and the Jesus and Mary Chain are the two to start with. Without them, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and all the other bands of their ilk, would probably sound completely different, if they even existed at all.

3. You think? I don't know about that....

For the record MBV and J&MC are 2 of my hands down favorite bands ever. I still remember hearing Just Like Honey while doing my homework in high school while listening on a crappy transistor radio to some local college station and being blown away.

I also love Sigur Ros and mogwai, I just don't see the straight line between the bands you mentioned.

They are the closest musically I can think of.

If you'd like a more instrumental version of what Mogwai does I would also recommend Pele, Tristeza, Tortoise, and Slint.

4. Hmmm...

sounds like you want something in the IDM (intelligent dance music) genre. I'd recommend Aphex Twin (Selected Ambient Works vols. 1 & 2). Also you might try Add N to (X), Autechre, and Squarepusher...

8. Here's a couple...

I've recently gotten into a band called Piano Magic. Strange, atmospheric British "band" that I would closely relate to Sigur Ros.

I like Sigur Ros, sometimes the vocalist's falsetto can get a bit tiresome, but overall the music is great.

A couple others you should definitely check out:

Stars of The Lid
Flying Saucer Attack
Acid Mothers Temple
Boards Of Canada

and on an older tip, you may want to check out Galaxy 500. Great American band from the late 80's, very influential. They record now as Damon and Naomi. Lots of their material is still available.
