For a nephew's birthday his mom is trying to find --
-- a place that sells Buddha statues.

I have no idea where to tell her to start.

They live in Chicago proper.

Does anybody know where to go in greater Chicago to get a small Buddha statue? (probably for a desk top, I think)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

TIA.

1. Try an Asian Import shop
there's generally one in every major mall.

4. It'll be tough getting her to try a mall, but I'll suggest it.
Thanks.

2. Most large cities have "Chinatown" or a "Japantown"
Other Asian cultures are usually represented within the larger name. Bound to find something there.

5. She could zoom into Chinatown in Chicago.
I wonder if there are affiliated businesses there with a directory? I may check that.

3. Chinatown

Ask in any restaurant in Chinatown (which will have a Buddha sitting near the entrance), and they'll tell him where to go.

There's always eBay, which has a slew of choices: http://tinyurl.com/4xq8t

Good luck.

6. She might go for a trip into Chinatown more than --
- eBay.

But it's not a bad suggestion.

11. Hi, barb. Thanks --
-- When I'm visiting I don't go to very many places in the city itself,
but she might know it.

'appreciate the help.

13. I have been to several Asian food restaurants that have had small gifts
in the lobby. One had a book shelf of free literature on Buddhism(sp?) If you can't find it anywhere else, it's worth a try (I'd call around rather than drive...)

14. Asian food stores. Well it sure makes sense.
I don't think she's even thought of that. I certainly hadn't.

Many thanks, Thor.

(Your screen name is great, btw.)
