My OTHER favourite drug-addled, alcoholic firearms enthusiast. Last time, before last night, I wept at the death of someone I'd never met. August 2, 1997. Wish I believed in an afterlife so I could imagine Bill and Hunter back on the shooting range together.

Hunter was a Internet blogger before the World Wide Web became popular. Or even was thought of.

Dr. Thompson gave a voice to us who lived in a Nixonian world that we knew was wrong. For that, he is my hero. Yes, rest in peace, Dr. Gonzo, rest in peace. I'm tying on one for you tonight.

i just got back from the bar, and am finishing off the remaining beer in the refrigerator and assorted nasties, and really pissed off that another one of the true american originals is gone.

we'll never see another one like HST, that much i'm sure of. i'm really going to miss the bastard.

and the next time another thread comes up about "why do people need guns if they don't hunt?", i hope the first reply is: "Hunter S. Thompson"... he was a prime example of the need to make stuff go "KABOOM" just for the fun of it. life is much to short to not make a big noise here and there.
