Maryland first lady regrets Britney remark

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (Reuters) -- Maryland's first lady was only joking when she said she would like to shoot pop star Britney Spears, but it is no longer a laughing matter.

Kendel Ehrlich, wife of the state's Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich, was criticizing what she views as the entertainment industry's negative influence on youth, during a domestic violence prevention conference last week in the city of Frederick.

"Really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," Ehrlich laughingly told the audience, accusing the 21-year-old Grammy Award-nominated singer of exaggerating the importance of sex for young girls.

Elected officials and their families really need to watch what they say. Not that it was a surprise to learn she is a republican. That's the republican answer to anything they don't like - censor, kill, or criminalise.

This is also so typically republican in that sex is a horrible thing, but gun violence is OK.

I mean, come on... None of us would ever say something silly, like wishing all republicans dead or anything... :7

3. I'm sure had a Democrat said the same thing about Amy Grant,

the Republicans would be livid. But that story even made it on the local news in Houston...of course, they didn't mention what party she belonged to.

When I see Mrs. Ehrlich... I see a 'soulmate' or 'separated-at-birth' twin of Ann Coulter. That glassy robotic far-away look in their eyes... it's all very Stepford. And very frightening.

5. Yeah, it was a bad thing to say, but I agree with her.

I'd really like to shoot Britney Spears, too (for reasons I outlined in the GD Forum thread on this a couple days ago). Then again, I'm not a public figure (and I'm posting quasi-anonymously), so who gives a rat's ass?

And this is a well thought out statement of intent: "Really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would..."

It's simply not the same as: "Id like to shoot Britney Spears" accompanied by :eyes:

To illustrate: The next worse thing she could have said is: "if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, and I had a gun in my hand, I think I would..."
