Why do we hold communism to a higher standard than we hold capitalism?
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 08:47 PM by LostInAnomie
I have thought this before but it really hit home today in my Econ. class. My teacher who is a free market zealot was singing the praises of capitalism, and talking about the failures of communism. Among these failures were: long lines for food and medical treatment, corruption in govt., etc.

Why do we not hold our economic system to the high standards that we hold communism to? The problems they had we have in spades, but we simply accept that failure of the underclasses is necessary. Why are we so convinced our way is the right way?

2. Because people get paid alot of money to convince us of this...
Also, in a capatalist system, the fault for structural failures is more spread out, with more places to blame, the outrage gets watered down as just the way the system works...

4. Among other mistakes in logic....
the professor is comparing apples and oranges in comparing capitalism and "communism". Cuba, China, Russia were economic basket cases that saw a modest improvement in living conditions under "communism".

The more appropriate comparison is USA with western European welfare state socialism.

No contest, IMHO.If someone could figure out a way to teach this old dog how to speak French or German fluently, I'd be outta here in short order.
