Is my profile on match.com too cynical?
I wrote it after reading a multitude of profiles from women in the Miami area, which makes them come across as materialistic, superficial and shallow. Here it is:

First of all, I do not make more than a $100,000 a year nor am I more than six feet tall. I am also not looking to get married within six weeks of meeting someone. And although I do workout, I am not obsessive about it. In fact, I have to force myself to go to the gym, which is why I straddle the line between “athletic and toned” and “about average” on this profile. Now that I’ve gotten that out the way and turned off most of the women on match.com, let me tell you the good things about me. I am funny, smart, creative, honest, affectionate, ambitious, extroverted, compassionate, easy-going, down-to-earth and one hell of a cook. I have a nice smile and a quick wit. I am also well-traveled, well-read and well-groomed (on most days anyway). And I'm outgoing, outspoken and outraged at the current administration. Yes, I'm a liberal, so there go the rest of the women on match.com. I am a writer (fiction and non-fiction) and a photographer who’s lived in several parts of Europe and the Southwestern United States, a free spirit who marches to the beat of his own drum. I sing along to Frank Sinatra at the top of my lungs when I think nobody is listening, but I am not embarrassed if I get caught.

1. I think it is humorous and touchingly honest. If I weren't married
and in Michigan...I'd be answering it. Keep it just like it is. :hi: and good luck!

2. Just remember that Laura Ingraham has a profile on Match.com...
...and she's nothing more than a (marginally) more attractive version of Ann "The Man" Coulter.

3. They have a section where you describe where you stand politically

And I, of course, said liberal, but most women choose not to answer or say middle-of-the-road. A lot of them say they're conservative and a few say they're liberals.

10. I answered liberal.
So why do all the conservative men contact me?

13. Most men probably don't read down that far in the profile
I do, because the one thing I've learned from my last relationship is that I can't get involved with a republican.

16. Yes. I can see that.
Most men look at the pic. In the emails I always get the question "Is red your real haircolor? I love redheads!"

4. Clever, odd, and just enough thinly veiled contempt for the process.
You haven't got a chance.

Just kidding. I like it and it will attract those you would want to meet anyway; the cynical and slightly self conscience at using the Internet to meet someone.

5. I did the match thing once
for three days. I think it was a three day trial. I got like 2,500 emails and 6,800 views in three days... which freaked me the fuck out. I'm too introverted for that kind of attention. But I did meet one guy for coffee. I saw him I think a total of three times, and talked on the phone. He turned out to be a complete psycho. I deleted my profile and haven't braved it again since.

But back to you- sorry- I think what you wrote is perfect because I think you're being honest and yourself. That's the best way to attract someone that you might actually have a connection with. I wouldn't worry about those that you'll weed out. I think you're doing yourself a favor by being up front. I really liked what you wrote. I would respond to someone who said all of that. :)

8. they look at the picture and move on
I had a profile up their and in it I made it clear a LIBERAL, and yet I got a ton of responses from guys who had conservative as their political view. Hence, don't post a photo, because thats all anyone judges you by. Hey if we were in the same area I would respond to your post just for the liberal comment.

6. I would remove these two references:
"Now that I’ve gotten that out the way and turned off most of the women on match.com, let me tell you the good things about me."
(un-necessary to mention who you are turning off, and detracts from what is an excellent message)

"so there go the rest of the women on match.com."
(go ahead and say you are liberal, but leave out references to turning off women)

Your message will appeal to many women. Way to go!

7. Cool! Grade mine! Grade mine!
Physique: I am tall and relatively thin. I run daily and stay reasonably fit but I am not weird about it. Ultimately, the body is just something to carry your brain around in. Personality: I am an individual who enjoys debate, spirited conversation, learning things new and old, absorbing information, spontaneous road trips, finding the odd, seeing the banal from different angles, and generally trying to shove as much as possible into the short sliver of time I have here. I love satire and am almost always amused by what is going on around me. I like art of all kinds (but being a 20th Century American, I am drawn to my own cultural references). I am open, unassuming, and do not like deception or manipulation. I can have fun participating in most any activity .... except karaoke.

23. Thanks.
I liked the original poster's alot.

I once saw one that was hilariously cynical that basically said "This sucks! Men are pigs and women make them that way!" We went out a few times. She was great.

19. I was hoping someone else would answer you since I am no expert.
The overall impression is you are not saying what you would be bringing to a relationship. Instead of the word, "weird", I would use the word "obsessed".
Also, regarding the mention of short sliver of time...if you are not terminal, I would re-word that.
If you are amused at what is going on around you, your humor needs to shine through alittle more.

I am sure you are a great person, but let's see if you can come through with a message that will let your personality shine through.

My two cents.

9. I noticed that too...
particularly the "so there go the rest of the women on match.com."

I say be proud you're a liberal. There's nothing to be ashamed of or apologize for. If that turns off some women.. fuck 'em. Do you want to be with a Republican anyway?

In my profile I said I was a passionate liberal, and that if someone was a Republican we aren't going to get along so please don't respond. I still got a ton of responses from Republicans trying to joke they'd "convert me" or saying differing political viewpoints shouldn't keep people from dating.
They'd sing a different tune if I puked on them everytime they opened their closed minded, ignorant, condescending little mouths. :puke:

BTW this was more in response to the O.P. if you're wondering. :D

11. I'll take that out
I wrote that in response to the overwhelming number of Cuban women down here who are republican cause their parents have brainwashed them to think that republicans are stronger on communism and will oust Fidel Castro.

But since I know we we're talking about this the other night...

I did look into Yahoo Personals earlier today, and might just join after seeing several nice looking girls from my area.

I haven't checked out Match.com yet but might give it a look this weekend...:hi:

If I were single and in Miami, I'd definitely answer. I think it's the right tone to attract just the kind of woman (I assume) you're looking for.
