Worst. Development. Ever. Earth stopped spinning for a moment 2day.
My 18 year old niece asked me.......
WHO THE BEATLES ARE. Yes, it's true. Imagine was on & her stepsister was singing along. She said, "This is a lame song, what is it?"
So we said Imagine by The Beatles. & she said Who are they?

Had NO clue who John Lennon, Ringo Starr or George Harrison were/are.
She did recognize Paul McCartney's name... but followed that up by asking if he was some designers dad?

As I was trying to recover from that, her step-sister asked her if she knew who the Eagles were (because Hotel California came on the radio). And she said NO.

Why do so many kids today have no appreciation for good music?

WHAT DID SHE MEAN SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE BEATLES?

3. That *is* horrible, but mr_hat is right
Imagine is a John Lennon solo song, as I understand it inspired by some of Yoko's writings.

Great song.

I'm totally into the Beatles again right now, because my son (2 years old) LOVES Yellow Submarine (the movie). It makes me so proud!

8. What? What? What??? Nooo.
Music appreciation.
It's very important to me.

For almost every era of my life, I can bring it right back to mind by listening to certain songs.

I love music.

as Stevie wonder says:

"Music is a world within itself
With a language we all understand
With an equal opportunity
For all to sing, dance and clap their hands"

7. I had to tell my brother (age 16) who the Beatles were.
This was like a couple years ago.

He also didn't know what a record was (musically). He didn't know that a record was a device used to store recorded music on a turntable.

Somehow The Beatles, The Who & The Eagles werent on the list.

But she does know Elvis, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tori Amos, Weezer........

Obviously I have work to do before she starts college this fall.

24. I got my driver's license in 1986, and
the first tape (ha ha) I bought was a Beatles' Greatest Hits or something like that; they made so much great music and I just fed off the songs for about 6 months straight. But also, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" had recently come out and "Twist and Shout" was being played on all stations, not just oldies ones.

I'd always been familiar with the Eagles, for some reason. Must be b/c my sisters are 10 and 12 years older than I am and they played more Eagles in the 70s in my formative years than the Beatles.

Then, I moved on to the Beach Boys, and I STILL think "Good Vibrations" is one of the best songs of all time, musically speaking.

Music today, general "pop" music, is utter crap. Some rap is interesting, esp. if the lyrics are political, but every time I see an MTV rap video it all sounds like gibberish, they're talking about their cars or women or shizzle or whatever the fuck it is and the videos are all about women in short skirts waving their asses at the cameras. Not much better than Tawny Kitaen writhing on whatshisface's car, admittedly.

Actually the most upsetting thing is that she just got first honors in her school & was accepted to every college she applied to. She's not an Einstein but shes very smart.

32. My 3yo knows who the Beatles are for pity's sake!
Paul is his favorite, for some reason.

How could someone become old enough to vote, live on thier own, drive a car and join the military without knowing about the Beatles?

Parents, this is why you can't let the kids pick the radio station all the time!
