My new buddy.

Okay, he's my wife's new buddy, but I think he looks nice.

He's still in foster care in WV awaiting neutering, but then we get to pick him up.

The original owners left him tied to a tree, he was found with no food or water.

The West Virginia shelter is fairly small and has a high kill rate. This fella has been in foster care for a while, and he will be spoiled rotten by both of us.

He has perfect facial markings, what a beautiful dog!

according to my wife, one of his parents is working with the DEA as a drug sniffer.

And he's so damn cute.

I have had a few shepherds, and they are wonderful, wonderful friends.
I have one now.

I love German Shepards and he is gorgeous! What a great face.

How in the hell could someone leave a beautiful animal like that (or any animal, for that matter) tied to a freakin' tree??

I am so glad you are giving him a good home. I grew up with a shepherd mix, I have always had a special soft spot for German shepherds. Don't know why, but they appeal to me on some core level.

My oldest sister is a veterinarian and her vet school would give the county K-9s free care in exchange for vet students getting a little clinical practice. She said most dogs, when on the examining table, just sort of pant and/or pace and pay attention to their owners, but the shepherd K-9s were the only dogs that watched the veterinarian the entire time. She'd walk to the counter, have her back turned while preparing a shot or whatever and she said the hair would go up on the back of her neck and she'd turn around to have the shepherd looking her right in the eye. She said it was funny, and indicative of how smart they are, but even for an animal lover it kinda creeped her out.

You've got a buddy for life. As soon as my husband and I settle down somewhere we want to buy a house I'm going to search for a shepherd. How did you guys find this dog in particular?

but my wife is part of a horse-owner/trainer list. Someone on the list does rescues and gave a link to this particular shelter. My wife and I both have a soft spot for rescue animals, she has some links to German Shepherd rescue sites.

WV animal shelter? Jesus, WTF... High kill rate...People don't want a dog around here unless it is a Rott, a Pit Bull, a Hunting Dog, or a Mutt. They would leave that beauty in the shelter to die. I am glad you got him, Spoil him for me and let him know that everyone that lives in this state aren't all that bad. But I am a Transplant, so I don't think I count.

works for the Mercer County Humane Society, so he knows that not everyone there is bad.
