Has anyone here seen "Garden State"?
Both the soundtrack CD and the DVD sell like hotcakes at my store. And just today my roommate just picked it up on DVD, so I have the chance to watch it. How did you like it?

FWIW, I tend to be biased towards art-house indie and foreign flicks, not so much Hollywood fluff. I did like the following movies: "Napoleon Dynamite," "Lost in Translation," and "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou."

2. You'll probably like "Garden State" then
it's very similar to "the Graduate", though perhaps slightly more offbeat.

5. I liked it
It keeps your attention, and it's moving without being overly sappy. My eyes actually got watery at the end, and movies rarely have that effect on me.

I actually disliked Napoleon Dynamite and thought Lost in Translation was overrated, but most of the people I know who liked Garden State liked both of those, so I figure you'll like it.

So there's my long-winded (as usual) recommendation. :-)

6. If you liked those other movies...
you would like Garden State, its quirky and funny. Not for all tastes but judging by your tastes in movies, you'd enjoy it

7. I like all the movies you listed but thought Garden State was meh.
I really wanted to like this movie because I adore Zach Braff, but I just couldn't get into it. There's absolutely no plot, which works when you have interesting dialogue (i.e. Napoleon Dynamite), but "Garden State" didn't have it. And I liked Natalie Portman's character, but at the same time I wanted to punch her in the face.

The only thing that kept me from popping the DVD out of the player in the middle was the killer soundtrack and my intense longing to suck on Zach Braff's lips.

8. It's not Hollywood fluff.
I'm from Jersey and I have similar parent(s), so I ended up crying a whole fucking lot. It was a genuinely beautiful movie.
