What are your major pet peeves?
I'm not talking about small ones. I'm talking about the biggies.

Mine:

-people who misspell on TV, newspapers, ads, storefronts, etc. (it's v. its, athelete v. athlete, etc.) *note: I am excluding message boards and private correspondence here.

-when you order food takeout and/or delivery and the person taking the order barely knows/speaks English, so that your order is always screwed up.

-people who play boomboxes in public or loud car stereos with thumping basses, thinking other people will like the music

-people who pride themselves as having gone to college, but know basically nothing about anything

2. Similar to yours

* Misspelling, anywhere.

* Loud car stereos - what is the point of cranking up your stereo when you go outside at 7 AM, start the car to defrost & go back inside? You're not even IN the damn car !

* Aggressive drivers who try to sneak around you using the right turn lane & merge in front of you, as if they had the right of way to begin with.

* Self-aggrandizing.

3. People who interrupt me when I'm talking.
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 10:18 AM by skypilot
I know a couple people who are extremely bad with this. I usually try to give them a hint when they interrupt me: when they interrupt, I simply repeat what I was saying from the beginning. If they interrupt again, I repeat what I was saying from the beginning and so on. I know people who will just keep interrupting at about the same point every time. It's like they don't register the fact that I'm trying to complete a sentence. I usually just say "Excuse me" and move away. I also usually drift away from them personally.

4. People who
* drive with their turn signal blinking for miles and miles -OR- people who don't use them at all.

*don't get out of the way of emergency vehicles. When I rule the world, this will be an offense punishable by death.

*belittle children for no reason.

*mistreat animals.

6. don't get out of the way of emergency vehicles.
oh oh oh this one gets me. just waited a half hour for funeral precession to go by. but no one stops for the ambulance and fire engine. i have used my car more to block people from allowing them to go. just bugs me. and people not stopping for crosswalks. not a law here. who would have thunk. not allowed to hit person once in crosswalk, (a good thing i guess, though if outside lines are people allowed to hit? who is to know)

yup...........

13. Your state doesn't have a law against that?
Some states do. In some, it can be up to a $1000.00 fine for not yielding to emergency traffic.

8. People who are rude in the movie theater ...
Last weekend, we went to see Million Dollar Baby & this very large man sat behind us. Throughout the whole movie, I could hear this gurgling, snorting, spitting sound. I thought he just had some serious sinus issues, which is understandable - but still, please control yourself.

I was wrong, though. After the movie, I was standing in the lobby & he walked past me with a spit cup in his hand! He had been chewing or rubbing tobacco ... whatever the hell it is that they do ... during the whole movie! I mean fuck - just stay home if you're going to be a disgusting ass - nobody wants to be around you.

Okay - I needed to get that off my chest. :D

10. chewing tobacco is digusting.
I used to ride the train into NYC and occasionally get stuck next to someone doing that. spitting brown goop into a clear plastic cup.

9. People who have children and don't even know the basic
fundamentals of parenting.

Rude, aggressive, inconsiderate drivers.

People who take up two parking spaces with their shitty-ass new SUV.

People who have no clue of what planet they're on when they are in a checkout line at a store. Expired coupons, no ID when paying with a check, arguing about a two cent price differential. Seems like I always get behind these people. The stores ought to post pictures of them so other shoppers will be aware when they get in line.

republicans (syn: assholes)

11. People who complain, bitch and whine about everything
Once in a while I understand that you might have it bad or that something happened that bummed you out. It's when certain people complain about how bad it is and in the scheme of things it means nothing.
If ever I feel down I think about the guy who complained he had no shoes until he saw the guy with no feet. There is ALWAYS someone (if not a few hundred thousand) that have it worse than you do.
So that's my biggest peeve: people who whine about petty things. Selfishness...

12. I hear ya on this one ...
A girl I work with always has some sort of an ailment. I swear - everyday it's something new. Like today, she says she slept weird & hurt her neck - so she's not moving her head around, which looks really ridiculous, & has a hot pack on it. Some people just have to complain about everything - I think it's the attention.
