examples:

****SPAM**** Urgent notification from billing department Mon, 21 Feb 2005 09:29:...

****SPAM**** Fw: ?

****SPAM**** re<14>:

****SPAM**** Regions Bank: Important Account Notice

****SPAM**** Re <7>:

****SPAM**** Vink Levitov Aelius

Is there any way to reach through the monitor and punch these assholes right in the neck? I swear to bob that if I ever meet an actual spammer in person, I'll break a pool cue on his/her face. He tasks me...He tasks me and I will have him.

2. Sounds like your ISP is employing anti-spam software. (Spam Assassin)
Your mail client should be able to filter those out for you now. Just configure it to automatically delete anything with "****SPAM****" in the subject.

3. Maybe the server you get your email from is doing this.
My university had a spam filter. When spam is detected, the server inserts the tag ***SPAM*** into the subject line. This allows you to set a filter on your email program (Eudora, Outlook, etc...) to filter out any email with the ***SPAM*** tag in the line.

They do this instead of automatically deleting the message, which could result in deleting a non-spam message. I think it's a good feature.

4. A-HA! I think you may have nailed it.
It's a secondary account that I can access from my regular ISP account.

5. If It Does That,
find out if you can direct all inward messages starting with "****SPAM****" to a separate file. In some email systems you can write a simple rule or routine to do this.

For example, you can do it in Lotus Notes, which I have at work. I gets lots of spam at my work account, but don't see most of it because it's diverted into the Spam folder.

Yahoo has a "Bulk Mail" folder for anything the ISP detects as spam. You can also mark individual messages as spam to prevent future mailings from the same source.
