How do you keep a suit from wrinkling when you're on a long flight?
I'm flying SouthWestern to Alexandria Virginia this weekend to a party for an old friend from college. I need to carry a suit but I don't want it to wrinkle in a piece of luggage. I have a suit bag, but that doesn't fit Southwestern's carry-on rules. Don't airlines have a closet where you can stow stuff like that, or should I just wear the coat while boarding and hold it in my lap for the flight?

As a side question, why do old hippies grow up and marry women who throw parties you have to wear suits to? I don't like to play dress-up but I love my old friends....

1. There is usually a full-height closet in the front of the plane
In what would be First Class on carriers that have it.

2. Whether there is a closet depends on the plane
A garment bag will lay across the top of most stow away cabins.

My suggestion would be to call the airlines and ask.

There is also a product called Wrinkle Guard which is spray on that will take out MINOR wrinkles but not creases.

YOu CAN pack the suit in a suitcase that is not stuffed using appropriately placed gift wrap tissue to prevent it from creasing.

3. Call the airline and ask if they have a garment bag closet on board.

Many do.

Personally, I wear nothing but cotton knits on a plane ride. :-)

Oh, something I learned from a traveling companion whose daughter was in the Navy. If you roll a garment instead of folding it, it will not wrinkle as badly.

4. There are closets
So you won't have to hold the coat. There are suit bags that fold and still minimize wrinkles and usually fit carry on rules.

One thing that might help.... you can by stuff to spray on clothes to take out the wrinkles. It ain't perfect but it's better than nothing. And if you are wearing the suit on the plane, even if you hold or stow the coat, the pants are gonna look like you slept in 'em. So you might want to get some of that wrinkle remover anyway...

Why do hippie men marry women who throw parties where you have to dress up? Because we all sell out. We all have our price and it's usually the love of a certain, particular, strange and wonderful woman that we just can't live without.

Khash.

5. Put layers of tissue in between each layer of careful folding. It will be
fine, especially if hung up for a few moments before wearing.

That would be wrapping tissue, not sneezing tissue.

6. I have a small travel-size steamer
Paid about $20 for it, by Hamilton Beach (I think). It gets out the worst wrinkles in any suit. If you travel a lot, it's well worth it.

9. Roll, dont fold
If you roll carefully, it won't get as many wrinkles, and no heavy creases.
