And why do local news broadcasts have such dumbasses passing themselves off as such? One obvious exception here in Chicago: Tom Skilling of WGN. He really seems very knowledgeable. The others are just a bunch of grinning idiots in front of a weather map.

5. Yeah, a meteorologist usually has some sort of degree.
It's funny how the local stations feel that they MUST have meteorologists on staff too. Can't just have a weather man or woman anymore, has to be a METEOROLOGIST.

A local station in Pittsburgh actually fired a long-time weather man a few years ago, because he wasn't technically a meteorologist. Never mind that he did a good job, and had worked there for years. His contract was not renewed, because the station said they had to be "competitive", and that meant meteorologists only.

Who really gives a f*ck about the weather people? Just tell me what the temp is, and if it's going to snow. Anybody can do that.

3. Weathermen were disruptive element in the 1960's
We,ahhhhhhhh not, THEY were a militant offshoot of the Students for a Democratic Society.

Or were you talking about people who try to talk about tomorrow's precipitation?

4. Jillian Barberie is a Weather Girl on Fox's pregame show
has little if any training in meteorology. Meteorologists have at least a baccalaureate degree in meteorology (more than likely a masters) and some certifications.

7. Radio research item from a few years ago indicated
that it didn't matter whether the forecast was delilvered by a DJ or a weather/meteor person from the local TV station, 50% of listeners did not believe the forecast anyway.

half the time.
