I'm Going To The Oscars, Ask Me Anything!
except what I'm wearing...!! Am tearing the closet apart in desperation; what I thought I was wearing, which I bought at a thrift shop months ago, I decided it needs taking in or something -- got no time...NOT buying anything...remember the year Sharon Stone wore the GAP top with the fancy skirt just to be chillin' & casual-like? I may do the same, out of desperation though....

1. How'd you get the invite?
Or can you just show up?

4. My Hub Is A Rank & File Academy Voting Member...
He's an animator...you don't really have to be rich & famous or anything to go, you have to be a member of the Academy but you can get nominated for that for lots of jobs -- you can be a makeup artist or sound guy or animator. So up where we sit (the balcony, if you see the aerial shots) it just looks like your regular office Xmas party or something -- lots of guys in rented tuxes and ladies in some kind of stretchy black velvet

But the fun part is, because they want all us schlubs to show up early (leaving the red carpet the hour before showtime for the celebs) we get enticed to show up at 3:30 (yes, 3:30!) by an open bar which has really EXPENSIVE AND YUMMY WINE!! And tons of hors d'ouvres by Wolfgang Puck, and Wolfgang actually comes out and does the serving himself!

Then you get to watch on the TVs inside while everybody gets interviewed and then WHOA they walk right by you! That's about it for the "mingling" part. Then it's off to Siberia (top section.)

8. It's Fun But You Can See It Better At Home!
You really can see it better at home...when I get home I turn on the after shows to see the dresses cuz I'm not gonna STARE in the lobby and I can't see from where I'm sitting, except watching a TV monitor that's farther away & smaller than my TV at home.

15. Question:
But do they cut you off just before the real show starts? If so, isn't everyone up in the balcony falling asleep by then?

16. I Fell Asleep In 2001
During the Cirque de Soleil segment. Of course most of the show is always so boring anyhow. But downing four glasses of chardonnay before hand doesn't help.

Those downstairs can't party that much -- especially the women they are so ultra-glammed up and a gazillion people are watching them, they have to sit up straight! I think we have more fun upstairs, actually.

The bar is open during the commercials but you have to get back in your seat or you have to wait til after the next commercial. Which is OK -- you get to hang in the bar, watch it on TV.

I was very very bummed that Mark Kausler didn't get nommed this year. I loved his short! He's a super good pal for years and years!! Wow small world. I don't think he's going though? Maybe! I'll def see him Sunday if he's there.

30. I will for sure!
The Cat is GREAT...it's just not the type that they nom is all, they always go for the real serious one and the darn cat is just darn FUN in the wacky old WB type tradition. It made the final cut though -- cuz they see lots and lots, like over 100 and it made the final 10. Really as close to a nom as you can get without getting nommed!

34. Yeah, I was really pulling for him
he mentioned it in the card he and Cathy sent me this past year (I got really sick over the holidays, I didn't get all of my cards and gifts out-I'm planning a special "Christmas in July" celebration for the ones I couldn't get to, lol)! I was really bummed that he missed it; he's been working on it for such a long time!

He and I worked on a Roger Rabbit short together ("Rollercoaster Rabbit"). Mark was always one of my favorite people at Disney; this was the first year I didn't get to send him a Christmas letter in 15 years! :-(

It really IS a small world! Radicalmom, another DUer, is a good friend of Dan Hansons, and her hubby works for Dreamworks. Wild, eh?

That's so cool. I do props, storyboards, and set sketches and hope to get to go someday. Take some pics and post them if you can. Let us know if you see some of the freeps that are suppose to show up and protest under their Bush Billboard.

17. No, Not This Year
I think F-9/11 was robbed -- if nothing else should have been up for editing. Man the whole theater jumped, hushed, did just what he wanted during that film.

18. If you care to share what size you are
I have a friend in Glendale with a whole closet full of awards wear, I'm sure she could lend you something if you two are near the same size. I also have a few nice ballgowns from awards shows out there too that I wouldn't mind lending out.

Have fun!

23. Same Size As Rene Zelwegger (As Brigett Jones, LOL!)
Size 12 which is twice the current Rene! You are so kind! But actually, the reality is I'm not in the looked-at section and glad of it! I attempt only to blend in and look "nice." After ripping my closet apart this evening have settled on my long forgotten 2001 Oscar ensemble, a Nordstrom post-holiday bargain, as luck would have it it's unscathed (no moth holes!) and it zips and everything.

I'm taking it in to the cleaners tomorrow to get pressed and I'm done thinking about it. Hey thank you for the generous offer!

going to lend you some jewels?

The only awards shows I've been to are the American Music Awards and several MTV awards shows. I remember the limo ride and going crazy looking for the "right" outfit just in case a camera should happen to catch me. LOL...

One day though, I will try and make it to the Academy Awards :) How? I don't know just yet.

Make sure to let us know how it goes!

Are you practicing your paparazzi poses? Hey, make sure to let us know the color of your dress, you might make it on WGN's pre-oscar show with Laurie gloating about your dress :) They tend to spot many "unknowns" who are fashionable

33. Oh The Paparazzi Will Leave Me Alone :)
And you can believe THAT! Being anywhere around so many movie stars is about as invisible as you can get without physically evaporating. LOL. Hey I'll look better than Uma Thurman did in that Greek get up a couple of years ago -- remember THAT?? The white hangy thing??? Cam Diaz is another one, she is so gorgeous and seems to go out of her way to dress down. I mean DOWN, like, pony tail and scrunchy! GYM HAIR TO THE OSCARS! That I don't get.

or a block or two down that has really great used gowns (most worn only once) you can find great deals in there..the name escapes me at the moment but it's on the corner (actually ON La Brea west of Sunset) and it has a big art deco clock on the building.
