1. True.
The polar opposite of loving someone is being indifferent to them.

4. there is a lot of middle ground, but the opposite is hate
if the extreme good feelings you can have for someone is to love them, then the extreme bad feelings you can have for someone should be hate. Now there is a TON of middle ground and it is certianly possible to really dislike someone and not hate them. Likewise, it is also possible to really like someone and not trully love them. There is a lot of middle ground, but i do think that Love and Hate are on opposite ends of that spectrum.

5. That's what the professionals say.
I tend to *feel* that hate is the opposite, but if I could calm down enough to think about it, I'd probably agree that it's indifference. ;)

7. For sane persons, that is usually the case.

Of course, hate can be motivated by love. One can easily hate someone for whom one has no love, if that person has harmed someone who IS loved. For instance, I fucking hate the pieces of human refuse that gang-raped my aunt -- and I do NOT love them.

There are also people who are capable of hate, yet are incapable of love. But they're not sane.

I could never hate anyone fully if love was not in the picture. I can hate people I love (though, thankfully, any occurences of that have always been brief), and I can hate people who have fucked with the people I love. I can't hate a complete stranger.

Whereas I am indifferent to a LOT of people. ;)

8. No, the opposite is actually FEAR.
All human emotions fall into those 2 categories.

Indifference is not a feeling; it's the LACK of them.
