20. You have team, so it must get played a bit
Curling gets live TV coverage in Canada. I know people who are seriously addicted to it.

22. I don't understand the game too much
except it looks like shuffleboard on ice with a bigger puck and the broom.

24. It's not a puck
A rock (40 pounds I think.) It is a bit like shuffleboard. You're trying to get closest to the target and knock the other team's rocks out of the running.

And of course, Randy Ferbey's going to kick some serious ass!

6. Some do, but not all
I would think only in big cities.

My school had the following:

basketball
soccer
rugby
volleyball
track
field hockey
skiing

a few other smaller ones like tennis

19. I grew up in a small town
that was surrounded (but not to closely) by really small towns. We didn't have enough population for it. The town didn't even have a football field.

We did have two skating rinks and a curling rink though.

18. Yes.
High School, College, and Junior Football, which is more popular for kids in the High School range.

The CFL kicks ass; although being born in the US and growing up in Cleveland I'm still a fanatical Browns fan, I love the CFL and it's college style atmpsphere and excitement; it's a great game.

Go Riders, baby!

28. yes -- there's quite the rivalry in Hamilton, Ontario
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 05:25 PM by Lisa
My HS (Westmount) sometimes was able to beat Westdale (a much better-funded school). Much to his credit, the head football coach ("Mac" Walker) never used to lord it over the non-sports people at the school. He once reprimanded our principal for "scheduling too many pep rallies" and taking away class time! He taught me scuba-diving and took us out on canoe trips -- and I remember him counselling a talented black athlete about going to college rather than relying solely on a sports contract ("you're not a big dumb jock, so don't let them make you into one"). He also had us do square-dancing and folk dancing (which I thought was dorky at the time, but looking back on it, was kind of fun).

Most Canadian high schools don't have football stadiums -- maybe a practice field, and that's it. (I remember being surprised when I heard that some US schools have their own stadiums ...)

A lot of people I know have had bad experiences going to schools where the pecking order was determined by sports (especially football), and I'm happy to say that, at least in the early 1980s, my school had good sports teams and also encouraged people who preferred science, creative writing, or drama.
