1. Fort Worth is cool!
Lots of museums, a thriving arts community, and more personality than Dallas (for the most part). There are cool parts of Dallas, too.

But, the D/FW suburbs are bland and soul-less (as are most suburbs, I guess).

3. I grew up in Fort Worth...
... but have lived in Dallas a long time.

Fort Worth is better, I'd live there if I could but such is life.

4. Fort Worth, hands down
There's an old joke here, "When your friends come to visit you in Dallas, where do you take them to show them the town? Fort Worth!"

Fort Worth is more laid back, relaxed and un-ostentatious. We have better museums, our ballet company is so good that Dallas has to borrow it to feel important, and our Zoo totally kicks ass over the Dallas zoo. We have the Stockyards, which no longer hold livestock, but are a great family attraction. Miles and miles of interconnected bike paths, a park within walking distance of EVERYTHING. Restaurants that will make you slap your grandmother and some of the best bars. Ever.

Another thing we've got over Dallas - our city council members don't race-bait each other, they work things out like adults, and while there is a pretty solid good'ol boys club at the top, they keep the city running, the teachers and police and firefighters paid, and the potholes filled.

If I had to move from Fort Worth, it would be under extreme duress.

7. Dallas by default
Although I went to college for a semester up in Denton and have some relatives in Mesquite who I've visited a few times, I'm not sure that I've actually ever been to Ft. Worth. I've been to Dallas a few times. Dallas is alright; not as right-wing as its reputation (that's what its suburbs are for) but I wouldn't want to live in the area for a variety of reasons. I'm proud of any DFW-area DUers for hanging in up there!

8. Dallas's coolness is directly proportional
to the distance you live away from White Rock Lake.

And, since I live less than a mile from WRL, in an old comfy neighborhood with lots of fun artists, I, naturally, think Dallas is Extremely Cool. :P

Honestly, people who live in Dallas and tell me it's boring either 1) live in the 'burbs, which is -- hello -- NOT DALLAS or 2) just don't make the effort to get out enough.

That said, Ft. W is quite nice. :)

15. Fawt Wuth, please
Dallas is only a place to get through when I am driving to Kentucky

well, I occasionally go there to a museum or something.

One time a bunch of us rode the "T" over to the west end and roamed around for a while then ate dinner at "On the Border" then rode the train back to FW, it was a blast.

Highly recommend it, we had about 30 adults ...great fun

I love FW, laid back, easy to navigate, great downtown, museums, zoo, good food, friendly people, great live theatre scene,

You know Amon Carter always took a sack lunch when he had to go to Dallas, so he wouldn't have to spend any money while he was there

21. agree, wanted to try a get together in Jan, but my life got sort
of turned upside down for a bit.

what kind of meetup would be best?

We could always start out at the Starbucks in the big Barnes & Noble downtown and work our way around Sundance Square

22. Funky Town is WAY better than BIg D nowdays.
And this is coming from someone born in Dallas.

When I was growing up, all I knew of Ft. Worth was the smell of cow shit, the Stockyards and Will Rogers Coliseum.

Well Funky Town has grown the hell up.

GREAT cultural center. Sundance Square is really nice. Bass Performance Hall, the Kimball, the Ft. Worth Museum of Modern Art, the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History (awesome!), Casa Manana, Stage West, I could go on and on.

We are far more likely to venture into Ft. Worth than Dallas. And to us Ft. Worth has a lot more personality (sorry all you guys in east Dallas and Oak Cliff--the only parts WITH personality!).
