Tell me about your high school self
Personally, I was a rebel. I got stoned a good bit, wore all black, and ratted my hair over my right eye. I listened to a lot of new wave music (this was in the late 80's) and wrote scary poetry that didn't rhyme. When I wasn't too stoned, I would argue and contradict my teachers constantly. I was the only straight A student not to get tapped for Honor Society because I kept getting suspended for arguing with teachers or pulling crazy stunts. I was bored, bored, bored, and the drugs were about the only thing that kept me from going insane. I pretty much stopped doing drugs when I got to college though.

20. I was the new kid
I went to 4 high schools. Seoul American, in South Korea, then a tiny little town in PA, then VA then CA. So, I can relate. I never lived anywhere longer than a year before college.

I've found I'm still a gypsie as an adult. Even though I've been in LA for 16 years now, I've still moved all over LA. Do you do the same?

31. Another new girl
Wow, there were quite a few experts at being the new kid on this board.

I also went to three high schools-- one public, one girls school and one Catholic. I'm not Catholic, but it was my favorite. Of course, I went there my senior year, so maybe I was just relieved to be finishing.

6. Always kind of an outsider.
I was listening to Bluegrass music while everyone else was listening to rock plus I was a real book worm. I was running my own antique shop while everyone else was "ratting" on the docks in Duluth. As a consequence I always had more money than anyone else so they thought I was a rich kid which didn't help much. I ended up with kind of a "to hell with you" attitude. I like being a nerd.

9. I spent all day drinking coffee
chatting with friends, reading the newspaper, and doing as little work as possible.

Then went to university, drank coffee all day, read the newspaper, chatted with friends and did as little work as possible.

Then got a job, drink coffee all day, read the newspaper web-sites, chat with friends on D.U., and do as little work as possible.

My how the internet changed me.

13. Quiet, withdrawn, art-type...
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 05:47 PM by Longgrain
Never had many friends, usually spent date nights alone in my room reading or drawing. I eventually ended up in a school for troubled teens where I didn't belong, so I decided to drop out and get my GED instead...

I hated high school.

15. I had friends in many groups...
I was one of the smart kids, and it just so happened that the smart kids were actually part of the "popular" group. I wouldn't say that I was on the most popular tier, but I was in the well liked by all group. Plus I started working for the athletic trainer after school every day, so once you can tape a good ankle, you get in good with the jock crowd. I must say I'm one of the few people with no emotional scars from their high school days.

16. Loner
I didn't fit in with any group though I hung out in a lot of them. I didn't really belong to any though. Stoner but known as a brain. Rode horses so I hung out with the squeaky clean horse riding bunch but was smoking cigs and drinking as well. Kind of a misfit. High school was not a good time for me - my mom died when I was in ninth grade and that made school seem very unimportant. I dropped out halfway through my senior year...

23. I wished I knew people who rode!
I did have my one moment of semi fame, when one Saturday the school arranged a trail ride for anyone who wanted to go. I was in grade 9, but we had a mixed group.

The group was large enough that we split in 2. About halfway through the ride, the other leader found us and asked if anyone could ride, as one chap was having a lot of problems with his horse. Our leader pointed to me and said "she can". So I got off my mount and got on his, a big grey tough son-of-a-gun. I had little problem with him, as I'd been riding for years.

Since it was early in the school year, I had no clue who the guy was. Eventually met him in the school hallway, and talked to him for a bit. After he left, all my friends gathered round and asked how I knew the vice president of the student council, a grade 12'er. (remember, way back when, when it mattered? lol) I told them what happened and I had my moment of celebrity.

HE didn't tell anyone, of course. ;-)

I was shy and quiet and artsy, but did have a small group I hung out with. You never knew where you stood day after day. We weren't popular. I started to hate groups after HS, too much back stabbing and in-fighting.

Now, I prefer one-on-one, but you can't shut me up!

27. Most people rode at my school
It was rural and farm country and the 70's - everyone had a horse or pony. Do you still ride? I just started riding with a woman who needs help exercising her 9 Arab show horses (who am I to say no to that?).

33. Oooh! Sounds like fun! I wouldn't refuse, either : )
English or western?

I started out western, then fell in love with show jumping in my early teens, so I switched to English.

My school was in the city, but I have no idea why nobody rode but me. I even took a few friends with me to my riding lessons back then, and they were terrified of the horses.

I don't ride anymore; I'm disabled now. (can't even get to the farm for therapeutic riding) I still follow show jumping, racing and to an extent dressage, however.

18. Jock, brain, shy...
I didn't like puberty at all and the whole thing about being in the cool group.

So I opted out of the cool group, didn't shave my legs, occasionally washed my hair, didn't wear a bra, wore flannel shirts... Actually that was jr high.

Then high school I started to come out of it, but always was my own person. :)

I feel as if life essentially passed me by those 4 years. No dating, no sexual exploration of any kind. Absolutely didn't drink, smoke cigs or pot. I don't know if any Mormon or conservative fundie kids were as strait-laced and as miserable as I was.

32. I enjoyed high school.
Even though everyone thought i was gay because I quit playing football to join a jazz band, and work on the school's musical. I did marching band and was president of my school's Key Club. I was into bands, plays, musicals, and I had my close circle of friends. Not a bad experience.

Had an ALMOST undeserved reputation as a bad girl. Smart but lazy; did just what I could to get by. Slacker, sometime stoner, head banger.

But, deep inside I was a shy, sensitive, deeply moral girl. Just acting out.

37. I loved to party (and still do)....
We didn't really have clicks at my school. It was an Arts & Science school where everyone generally respected everyone else. I hung out with jocks, hippies, musicians, artists, nerds, etc. My wife was amazed at my reunion by the great diversity of people that were close friends of mine.

If I had to classify myself, it would just be fun-loving guy who drank alot and smoked way too much pot.

38. Stoner, rebel and rocker who wrote for the school newspaper and
loved drama class.
Every other class was boring. I went to school with a lot of Cubans and blacks, which meant that my musical tastes of rock were out of place (most listened to dance or rap music).
I ended up dropping out and getting a GED.
