Does anyone besides me hate those movies (possible spoilers)
that are based on a true story, but there were no survivors, so the whole damn thing was pretty much made up?

Like, The Perfect Storm? That one pissed me off. Last night I watched Open Water. No one has a single clue as to what happened out there, except that they both disappeared, and might have been attacked by sharks.

For some reason, that just bugs the crap out of me!

2. Yes, I hate them
but then again I hate most true stories, because they are so long. They have to be to build up all that melodramatic music and crappy acting usually associated with those movies. I hated the ending of Sid & Nancy because there are so many different theories about what really happened. If Sid was in a heroin nod, how could he have stabbed her to death?

Yes, I hate those types of movies, because they seem to be making up what really happened. And I know they don't go in there with forensics teams to determine who said what to who for all the dialogue for those movies.

3. Well, to be fair . . .
. . . while "Open Water" was inspired by actual events, it is not meant to be a "true story." That is, the main characters in that film are entirely made up. The movie (intentionally) doesn't even identify precisely where the events are supposed to be happening.

4. I thought
Perfect Storm did pretty well with the subject material they had. What really bugs me are movies that fictionalize stories that were much more interesting to begin with e.g. "A Prefect Mind".

5. "based on a true story"
pretty much means they get a real life incident and create a story around it.

7. Here's a link to the "true" story the movie is supposed to be based on:
