Are the Oscars on Sunday this week?
Didn't they used to be at the end of March? On a Monday?

Does anyone care about the Oscars anymore?

2. Been on Sunday for a few years
They used to come up against the NCAA final game on Mondays a lot.

Then last year. I think, they moved it back to February to shorten the campaign season and get the show into sweeps month.

The only thing I really care about this year is seeing Morgan Freeman win. He is too good an actor to have never won.

4. They always give Oscars to actors who should have won for other movies
Especially Street Smart, when he played against his usual type.

I personally lost interest in the Oscars years and years and years ago. It used to be an event I looked forward to, and when I was movie-crazy in high school, I used to fantasize about being in that auditorium waiting to hear my name called. But then I got tired of the formula movies and performances that always won. Movies got worse, too. Sorry to sound like an old fogie, but the last decade for really good, really personal mainstream movies was the 1970s.

3. They are on Sunday and I really don't plan on watching them
There's a lot of Oscar nominees that I plan on seeing if they are still in the theater at present or when they come out on DVD.

However, I have no vested interest in who may win any award (although I'd like Freeman and "Million Dollar Baby" to take their awards) and I can think of other things I can do for 3-4 hours that will be more personally rewarding.

I don't think I've watched any of the big three award shows since 1996 or 1997. Haven't missed the experience either.

5. I'm curious to hear Chris Rock as emcee.
And to see if there's any controversial political statements. Course, it's less painful to watch if you tape then watch later. That show is interminable. The dance numbers are particularly torturous.

6. Yeah...but I'm not sure about Chris Rock as host.
He's so different from a Billy Crystal...Rock is far more political. I'm not sure how he's going to adjust to tossing off Bruce Vilanch jokes on a show he's never even watched...or so he said.
