CONFESS! What do you do regularly that you know is just WRONG!
What do you do on a regular basis that you just know is wrong, that really runs counter to your values, but you do it anyway. How bad do you feel about it? Why do you do it?

The two main things for me:

1) I eat meat. I think the meat industry is horrible. The animals suffer. They get pumped full of crap to keep them alive in unlivable conditions. And the industry is terrible for the environment. So I'm hurting animals, I'm hurting myself, and I'm hurting the planet.

I feel moderately to tremendously guilty about this.

I continue to do it because animals are yummy and I can't afford to buy all organic/free-range.

2) We use disposable diapers for our son. Again, terrible for the environment.

I fell relatively guilty about this.

My husband and I barely have the time and energy to keep up with our laundry as is. Cloth diapers are just too high maintenance. We'd like to do the right thing, but it's just not happening.

Sorry world. I try to make up for it in other ways.

#1) Disposable Diapers. A parents blessing really. Although because my son is 15 months I might venture to get a couple cloth diapers to encourage potty training at some time in the near future.

#2) Fast food - it's fast, it's good and I'm not a good cook.

#3) Live too far away from my workplace and drive 60 miles each way to work and back - not to good.

Fucking dumb barking fucks.

That's right, stand over them and blast em in the heads one by one, I think about it a lot. Mostly when they're being dumb barking idiot fucks.

Then I snap out of it, and go hug my kitty. He's quiet. And small. And relaxing. Then I unload my Colt Python, and we cuddle.

20. I shop at Walmart
There, I said it.

1. They are open 24 hours and my wife and I work 50-80 hours/week, many days noon-midnight.

2. We live just above the povery level and need to save money whenever we can.

3. I can find everything I need there with one stop.

And yes, they are an 800-lb gorilla. On a local note, when they built the new supercenter, they had to build an access road from the K-mart next door so the bus (which stopped at K-mart) could go from one parking lot to the other. They then graded their property so that where the access road went was too steep for the busses to turn onto it. So now the bus stops at Walmart and not K-mart.

40. Eating meat and downloading music illegally
The reasons to stop eating meat definitely outweight the reasons to keep eating meat, and yet I still haven't managed to quit. I plan to eventually, though I will likely still make exceptions for seafood.

Downloading music illegally is something I know is wrong and feel a lot of guilt about and yet do anyway because I have an addiction to wanting to hear as much music as I can. Maybe it's the equivalent of getting drunk or overeating for me, and I guess it's not as harmful. It's not like I use it in place of buying music; I have bought literally thousands of records and hundreds of CDs. I mainly download to have cleaner versions of some of my favorite stuff I have on vinyl and to check out something new that if I like enough I will probably end up buying eventually.

Also, I don't recycle because my town has absolutely no recycling program, but I can't do a whole lot about that until I move.

44. I have sinned before god, and she's pissed!!!
1) I smell my dental floss after it's used. Eww.

2) I call screen and make stink faces when it's people I don't want to talk to.

3) I have a car that only gets 28 mpg highway. I should be driving a Prius.

4) I curse all the time, especially in my inner monologue.

5) I procrastinate daily.

6) I beat myself up too much mentally.

7) I've run over more suicidal birds and squirrels than I can count on both feet. I do feel the guilt even though it's partially their fault.

8) I only give 2-3% of my time and energy to the charity of my choice.

9) I carry grudges in 400 gallon drums. If you were dating me, you'd see that I don't react to insults or criticisms right away. I'm silent and stone faced, only to explode on you at some future date six months from now. Consequently, i'm not married.

10) I take great schoddenfreuder in annoying and outwitting right wingers.

48. Watch far too much television
...and I'm watching every episode of "24" even though it's got stereotypical Muslim terrorists featured so prominently that Kiefer Sutherland had to do a PSA saying followers of Islam are Our Friends.

My defence is that I know I'm not gonna be influenced by any bias or racism--the same defence I use when I watch all the other trashy 1 hour dramas that seem to dominate my line-up. I lived in England and loved their sophisticated programs, but American TV in the 21st century is like M and M's--nothing in there that's good for you, but totally addictive and impossible to stop consuming!

50. I am a chronic worrier
I am going to counseling now. I have panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. She tried to tell me that not being able to drop a bad thought, worrying about the same thing, was a biological problem. I finally was able to get it across to her that my worrying actually serves a purpose. I feel the need to plan for every possible outcome. I feel safer that way so I won't be suprised when something bad happens.
"Then it sounds like you want to have anxiety."
"No, not really. I know that it is destructive to myself and my relationships. It keeps me from enjoying life."
Anyway, I am supposed to list every situation that I have successfully handled to prove to myself that I don't have to plan and reherse for everything because I already am capable. We'll see if that helps.
