***Pictures of where you live***
You don't have to say where it is (though if it's obvious, we'll figure it out), but I thought it would be cool for DUers to post pictures of where they live, or their environment, etc. I have some here:

http://www.maggister.com/biohomepictures.htm

So start posting pictures!!!

119. Oh, you have snow!
It looks like we won't get any snow this year. We haven't had much of a winter. Not that I like driving in it and all the cold, but it's weird we haven't had one. We still have a couple of weeks window of opportunity for snow, there's not much hope for it.

How much snow is that? Is it up to your window or just windblown on there?

170. It's on our windowsill
in the foreground, that's what's on the windowsill. We got about four inches.

That photo was taken from a third-floor bedroom, looking down onto our driveway.

Now, we're supposed to get another snowstorm (I hope, I hope) tomorrow night and Monday. I love the stuff, can't get enough.

I give 'em hell anyways. I wear my shirts and hats around Boston and if anyone talks smack, I remind them of this simply mathematical equation:

But don't mess with drunk college boys around Fenway....those are the trouble makers.

86. I moved from NY ...
... back to Portsmouth, NH as a staunch Yankees fan in 1978. The Sox played the Yankees in the series that year, and I was an outcast! I'd cheer the Yankees on all by myself in a bar, and everyone would give me the hairy eyeball. But I didn't care! It got to be the local joke.

Good luck!

No one really gets that hot-headed- it isn't like the Sox/Yanks.
Some of the more elitist assholes of BC will chant "safety school" at you guys, so I appoligize for that in advance. That ain't cool wit me.
But other than that, enjoy the battle of the mascots. We all know a bloomin' Eagle could pick apart a tiny Terrier :hi:

108. Eastern TN is gorgeous!
My younger daughter was born in Cosby. We actually were renting a cabin from a woman in Chattanooga!

That cabin was up on a hill - you know, you drive up the holler along the creek, then the houses are all up on top of the ridges. The trees were so thick, though, you couldn't see far. But the electric storms were intense! It was scary.

Where do you live now?

I live in Athens, GA now. I'm just a few hours from the mountains. My family still lives on Signal Mtn. where I grew up. I remember storms so intense that the wind screamed around the house. Eastern TN is a wonderful place! I've been through some intense storms: electrical and ice variety!

177. ice! yuck!
let me tell you my tennessee story!

it was the winter of 93-94, the coldest for the southeast in something ridiculous like 40 years. in alaska, it was very warm, and in tn, it was cold cold cold.

in january, we could not keep this cabin warm. it was definitely a summer place (or a mild-winter-place!). so we went to a hotel in newport to wait out a storma and a cold snap. the interstate to kentucky was closed, so there were a lot of truckers there, too. the parking lot was covered in ice. when we went home three or four days later, the road was about a foot of frozen slush! i was quite pregnant with a 3 year old in tow, and i was scared shitless driving on this! i'd never seen ice like this before.

the power was out for about a week, and since we were in the very corner of the county, we got it turned on last.

i'd rather have three feet of snow than one iota of ice. it was a horrible winter!

but we had a great birth at home in that cabin in the beginning of april, so it was worth it to wait out the winter!

I don't have any pictures online of where I am specifically, but here are a few pictures of my hometown off the net.

These two top pictures (prettier than most of what my hometown looks like, though if you get out into the country around here things look a little more like that) are from the famous Stark property (aka Shangri-la)- several acres in the middle of the city, preserved by a rich family for decades and not open to the public until just a couple years ago. I plead the fifth as to whether I ever went back there before it was ever opened to the public. :-)

That's the tourist bureau on the edge of town at the Texas stateline; we're right on the Louisiana border.

The copper dome on the top of the old Presbyterian church downtown was at one time copper-colored but is now completely green! I kinda like it, though. Supposedly, this was the first air-conditioned building west of the Mississippi River; but I'm not sure just how true that is.

City hall... looks like your average City Hall, I suppose.

go too the web site, right click on the picture, where it says copy image location , click it" copy image location'. then come back too post and put it in between the bar's next to your p on your key board, the right facing before then the left facing after. Paste the copy between them. I always use the bar's before and after the link.

This is about 10 mi. from me:

During the summer, the main street of downtown (just a few blocks from me) is blocked off on Saturday afternoons so that people can show off their antique cars:

When the water gets high, they let it loose at the hydrolectric dam.

It's a rush to stand down by the water. It never fails to scare me just a little bit.

About 2 hours away, depends on traffic!

Another pic of the Pacific from SF, a view that you rarely see pics of, thanks to the beauty of the Golden Gate!

That's me and a friend at Peju Winery in Napa, about an hour away from home (I'm the one with the teeny tiny red purse!)

Skiing in Lake Tahoe, about two hours away in the winter, less in the summer. (I am now snowplowing much less!)

215. I so want to see England
Many of my family came from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. In fact, I have an old violin that was purchased there by my great-great-great-grandfather around 1820.

Perhaps it's because of family history, but England, Ireland and Scotland have always been deeply fascinating to me.
