My stove is dead - any good ones to buy?
gas range finally bit the big one. Would welcome suggestions about a reasonably priced one to buy? Under $300-400 or so? Not sure about prices, since I have never bought a new one.

Thanks.

1. Most are about the same, you get want you paid for.

By the way do you need a new stove or a new oven? When My mother re-did her kitchen she decided to opt for a separate burner top and over. She wanted a double oven for baking so that is what she opt for and than purchased a stove top when she wanted something other than for baking. Some double oven come with a Microwave instead of a double oven. Just a thought:

Yes only $1299 and you are looking for something cheaper but my Mother likes it as do my sisters.

If you want to look at the GEs here is their cite (Their have stoves cheaper than $1229).

GE's cheapest is $319 list:

said we could get one for $ 200. I don't really know if that is true. $500 is probably as high as I want to go. oops I didn't see the $319 one, thanks. :)

5. I'll not ever have a kenmore again
My SO, sweet as he is, bought me a brand new stove a few years back. It's a very nice gas stove with the electric start. The darn thing wasn't three years old when the starting mechanism for the oven went out so I called the number provided in the manual for replacement parts.
They didn't make that part anymore :grr: but they might be able to find the part in a warehouse some where.

I said the fookin thing isn't but three years old what do you mean you have no parts for it? ooooooh I was mad. Months went by so from Oct. 2002 until March of 2003 I had no working oven. Finally my SO took the dead part over to a friend of his in the business of fixing stoves and ovens and the guy fixed up a part for us.

No we'll never buy kenmore appliances again.

7. the one that came with the house is a Tappan
it is ancient ( think that 70s shade of yellow) and we were going through igniters every few years. The guy said it wasn't worth fixing - would have to be rewired and such.

6. Forget Frigidaire
Ours is only a couple of years old and the oven sometimes works fine and sometimes won't even go on. How frustrating!

Check home improvement or appliance stores for floor models or discontinued models. Many times, you can get a nice discount on last season's model or an item with a little scratch or dent that does not affect the function of the appliance.

8. hmmm thanks
so Frigidaire is out and Kenmore questionable... hmmm. Maybe I need to see what a new Tappan would cost, assuming they still make them. As I said, I have never bought a stove
