6. My parents traded off a 69 Firebird for a 76 Rambler station wagon ...

... and I've never let my mother forget it. I'd like to have that Firebird back.

At least when my Dad traded off his 68 GTO he got a 72 240Z. That was pretty cool.

9. 1970 Dodge Challenger

In 1977 I was 17 years old, I got my Father to buy me a 1970 Dodge Challenger for $500, yes I said $500, and it had these options.

340 Small Block Motor
Holley 4 barrel carb
Edelbrock torker manifold
Headers
Reverse lock out pistol grip 4 speed hurst shifter
3/4 racing cam
Dual point distributor
Posi read end
Traction bars
Air shocks
Reclining bucket seats
Tilt steering wheel

It was all from the factory too, and it was a one owner car with a brand new rebuilt motor. The body had 70,000 miles on it, it was dark green with a black vinyl top. In 1978 I sold it for $2,000 because I needed money, and I had no clue what I had.

Today that car would be worth a LOT of money, at least $20,000 if not more. To this day I wish like hell I had never sold that car. It was a monster, and it was almost unbeatable in city street racing. In fact, it was so fast it was scary, that engine was unreal. It would smoke the tires in 1st or 2nd gear without using the clutch. It was basically a 1/4 mile race car on the highway.

Every time I think of selling that car it literally makes me sick, especially when I only had to pay $500 for it.

but I want something big enough for two, a weekends worth of luggage (at least) and two sets of golf clubs.

Ragtop, 300+ HP, and then do a boatload of work on the suspension and brakes. There are all sorts of kits so you can put 4 wheel disk brakes, and a very fine rear suspension on a mid 60s US car.

Young guy at work has a 69 Chevelle, and it has front brakes from a 5th gen Corvette, and rear brakes from the last generation Camaro. Rear suspension is a truck beam suspension, IIRC. Highly adjustable, very supple and responsive.
