Obtain

a fifth of whiskey
a four-poster bed
a hat.

Put your hat on one of the foot-posts, lie down in bed, and drink until you see three hats.

2. If you don't kill the germs, you will definately show them a good time.
Actually, you have to get really drunk. While you are drunk you forget the cold, and then when you are hungover you feel too bad to feel the cold. When the hangover starts to wear off and you feel the cold, you repeat the process.

4. Pure trickery
I remember the days when a hot toddy was the Rx for a cold - even for children. But hydration is key for getting over a cold and alcohol dries you out.

5. Depends if you need sleep or not
Alcohol does thin mucous and it's a mild sedative, and a key ingredient in hot toddies and nyquil, and other snake oils from the past.

A shot of brandy in a hot toddy won't dehydrate you that much. My favorite cold cure is plenty of hot Thera-Flu and bed rest.
