"Adopt-a-DUer" : a modest proposal
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 01:09 PM by Paragon
The thought came to me while I was shaving (no, not to name my firstborn son "Nick" :silly: ) -- a possibly ingenous (or outrageously stupid) idea.

Two DUers who are not already sending Private Messages to each other decide to "adopt" each other, getting to know each other through their inboxes. Friendship, love, infatuation, hatred, whatever...ensues. Spice things up a little.

Well, I'm off to the Sauerkraut Festival now just outside of Cincy. Looking forward to coming back and reading the raves, flames...and maybe just a short, lonely, ignored thread. ;-)

(on edit: Applicants should be in the 1000+ post club and seem reasonably sane, to avoid "freeping". Or not.)

3. I always thought there was sort of a high level clique on this forum until
I posted my Hurricane Isabel blog in the Meeting Room. I never was congratuated on my posts at 100, 500, or 700 and I didn't think it was unusual. Hey I'm the fat girl and I'm used to being on the low end of the social totem pole. (That doesn't really make sense on line, does it?)

But what I found out was when I posted my blog on the hurricane and didn't post for the two days I was out of power is that people asked about me. Where is demnan? There was real concern and I was very touched. Also one of our top astrologers paid me a compliment on another post, someone who is really a refined professional writer and I was thrilled to be part of that community.

So that is just my take on things. You remember when our writing star, William Rivers Pitt wrote about teasing his cat and we all came on and trashed him? And he took it in stride?

There isn't another forum on the internet where I'd rather be flamed, ignored, alerted and argued with.

4. It could work.
I had been here almost a year before I really realized that a short PM was a good way to get to know folks I was "talking" to. I really didn't want to "bother" anyone but found, in fact, most people really like it. I sure did. Now I get and send several a week and certainly feel more involved with the community. Spent a good 1/2 hour last night IMing with another DUer. It doesn't seem to be needed to spice things up these days but the connections are there to be made and it is fun. Even found a couple of old "homies". Go for it.
