Okay DUers having serious second thoughts here
You may know the situation about the new job. Here is the problem

Pros
A job in writing
move out of town..always nice for me
it's a job

Cons
600 kilometres away
shit pay
isolated small city
have to be there Tuesday

See, I was looking throught the jobs in my field there are many closer to home. Even then with a bit of time and luck I could find a well paying job here..save some dough then do something like this. I have a lot of student debt and the pay here wouldn't really suit my needs.
I don't know !!!! Argh!

What do you guys think

1. Unless you're very very very sure you can find a better-paying job
where you are, I'd say take the new job, and start looking for a better-paying position next spring. Tough economy right now; can't imagine it would be better in Canada. Good luck regardless of what you decide.

2. I cut my teeth writing in the NWT.
Go for it. I certainly enjoyed covering the Native and Inuit beat for two years. Journo jobs (if that is what you are doing) are not that easy to find in Canada (and don't pay too well either). Take what you can get. Take it now.

IM me if you want to chat.

4. It boils down to this:
If you don't take the new job, will you spend a good portion of the next few years of your life wondering "What if?" I say that you should sack up and do it. If it turns out badly, you'll at least have accomplished something, padded your resume, and saved yourself the worry of having wondered if you made the wrong decision. I speak from experience; I've passed on one or two opportunities in my life, only to wonder if I erred in the favor of safety.
