44. Check out this site to download a handy wallet-sized guide
http://www.audubon.org/campaign/lo/seafood/

I couldn't find the site with the whole monkfish story, but the gist of it is this:

Humans havn't been eating monkfish very long, probably because they are so ugly that it took centuries before anyone thought to try one.

The monkfish population was never large, and they breed slowly.

Just 20 years ago, the average monkfish being caught was 4 1/2 or 5 feet long; today, those are RARE, and the average monkfish being caught for market is only 2 - 2 1/2 feet.

50% size reduction in just 20 years is VERY bad news for any species.
Worse news for a TASTY species like the monkfish.

20. I love fish! Top of the list is probably trout, but
there is nothing like some freshly caught, pan fried walleye.

We ate a lot of walleye, northern and crappies when I was a kid. Sometimes just pan fried in butter, sometimes coated in my dad's delicious beer batter. Fish, baked beans, and hashbrowns....mmmmm....

32. So it is the same
love it! I grew up in Michigan and miss the fish from there. We would have perch, sunfish, trout, pike and smelt during the year.
I remember fishing with my father for perch. I never caught a walleye/pike. So is walleye and pike the same?

My mother would have a beer dip for smelt. They would just melt in your mouth.

Now that's a slice of heaven!

I think the pike is short for walleye. There is also a fish called the northern pike which looks very similar to the walleye.
