I'm a much happier person now that IE is no longer running on my machine. I get no popup ads, and since I cleaned the spyware, nothing new has come up.

Explorer Douses Firefox Flames
http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/40942.html

The recent market share growth enjoyed by the open-source Firefox browser has begun to slow in recent months, according to the latest data from U.S. industry watchers.

Analyst firm WebSideStory reported yesterday that Firefox's market share gains against rival Internet Explorer slowed to a comparatively modest 15 percent increase in the five weeks leading up to February 18, 2005.

In the six weeks before that, the Web watching firm reported that Firefox grew at 22 percent. These figures compare with a 34 percent increase between November 5 and December 3, which coincided with the release of Firefox 1.0 on November 9.

18. Ahem *COUGH*
The top link explains that the latest release FIXES those problems, so that particular gripe is not even pertinent.

I don't know if it's as fast as Safari, fairly close I'd guess, but it runs circles around that old crappy IE5 for Mac (you know, the one where the stop button doesn't even work).

21. Not true
Mozilla had no fix for the flaw, they had to disable IDN as a temporary corrective measure In the current build of Firefox, they hope to have a fix for Firefox 1.1.

http://www.betanews.com/article/Mozilla_Drops_IDN_Support_Due_to_Flaw/1108511234

http://www.searchenginejournal.com/index.php?p=1351

With these updates, Mozilla Foundation has settled on a workaround where International Domain Names are displayed by Firefox 1.0.1 as “punycode” by default so that spoofed websites are easier to spot. Additionally, the new Opera browser (Opera 8 Beta 2) comes with the white listing of top-level domains that have implemented anti-homographic character policies.

“This is obviously an unsatisfactory solution in the long term and it is hoped that a better fix can be developed in time for Firefox 1.1,” the Mozilla Foundation said in its advisory. “For now, the Mozilla Foundation (and other browser vendors such as Opera Software) maintain that the problem is mostly the fault of domain name registries and registrars that let people register homographic variants of existing domain names.”

Firefox is good, but nor perfect. For example, when I save a file from the Web IE picks up the page name but Firefox doesn't. :^(

No pop-ups and damned few pop-unders (I finally got one last week).
Nothing against Firefox, though! It does have a very attractive logo.
