Apartment Gripes: Any Advice
I have an apartment in this place in Minneapolis, it's called University Commons, ucmn.com it's designed for College Studetns, mainly at the University of Minnesota.

I started this Spring Semester, and from the beginning they've been talking out of both sides of their mouths.

First off, they originally told me my rent would be 920 a month. Then after I signed the lease they said that it would be 1035, because that's what the former person was paying (i took over someone elses lease). At that point I still could have canceled, but I really needed a place to live, so I figured I'd just deal with it. A week after I moved in I got a notice addressed to the former tenant saying his rent of 996 dollars was late. Which annoyed me, because according to them, he was paying 1035.

This is where the current problem comes in. Which is pretty big. I was told by the person I talked to that I could pay a lease transfer fee or something of 200 dollars, because I only needed the apartment until May, and his lease was until August. I walk down to the office today to pay my lease transfer fee, and they say I was misinformed, and they don't do that, and I'm responsibe for June and July rent, which is 2000 dollars.

College is expensive enough without jerkwipes like this. It's a nice place and all, but they really take advantage of college students. 2000 dollars is like a fourth of my tuition. I'm going to have to work 2/3rds of the summer to pay that, and probably have to take a second job to be able to still afford a place next year to live.

1. See if your town has a Tenant's Council.
Sounds like they're pulling some pretty extreme crap. Tenant's councils are designed to deal with asses like this that enjoy changing the rules as they play.

Threaten them with it and see how far you get. Do a google search.
