I've Lost 20 lbs This Month
From February 5th to March 5th.

I went from 211 to 191.

How?

Well, here's what I used to eat every day (pretty much)...

Breakfast: 4-6 slices of toast with butter or cream cheese and a tea with no less than 10 tablespoons of sugar.

Lunch: Burger King or Wendys - A King-sized chicken sandwich meal with king fries and a king soda. 2 or 3 5-piece nuggets and biggie fries and a biggie coke. Or KFC - 6-piece crispy strips with two rolls and a large pepsi.

Dinner: Usually the same as lunch. I was like the guy in Super Size me, except I never ate fast food for breakfast. These were on the nights when I worked. On the nights I didn't I might have had chicken cutlets, pasta, pizza, ect.

Snack: Bag of cheese doodles or half bag of Oreos + bottle of soda.

.
.
.

And here's what I eat now...

Breakfast: Bowl of Cheerie-O's. Tea with five teaspoons of Splenda.

Lunch: Tuna with little bit of mayo, or a turkey sandwich on wheat bread. Crystal light ice tea.

Dinner: Turkey sandwich on wheat + apple. Crystal light ice tea.

Snack: no snacking!

The way I figure it, I'm having less carbs now, throughout the day, than I used to just at breakfast. I'm not on Atkins or anything, since you have to have about 20-30g of carbs a day and I'm taking in about 80-100.

But I'm still losing weight more rapidly than my father did, and he is on Atkins and has been for the past 7 months. He's lost 40 lbs in those 7 months. I'm lost half that in one month.

:)

Yay me!

10. well, maybe once a week or every other
me and my girlfriend will go to Friendlys and I'll get like, chicken fingers.

But I won't eat all the fries, and instead of having a Coke with it, I'll have water.

Oh the water, I forgot to mention I also drink a HUGE amount of water now. About six or seven glasses a day.

4. definitely a healthier diet
But it sounds like you need more fruits and vegetables in your diet. You are still emphasizing carbs, particularly bread. How about fruit with the cereal in the morning?
As for the difference between yourself and your dad, you probably have a much higher metabolism at least in part because you are younger.

14. aren't there carbs in apples?
and other fruits?

Yeah, my dad is like full-blown Atkins, eats nothing but meat and cheese and veggies. I bet his cholesterol is like 250.

18. Yes, apples have carbs
Fruits and vegetables have carbs. But in my mind, that is not the important issue.
Have you ever heard of the glycemic index? Basically not all carbs are the same. Some carbs, such as bread and potatoes, are high on the glycemic index which means that after eating them, your glucose levels soar and then drop precipitiously, causing you to become hungry again. Most people are better off not eating bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice.
Fats and proteins score low on the glycemic index.
Fruits and vegs offer great nutritional value.

Just snack on some carrots, celery, or some fruit in between meals.

Oh and congrats!

8. Your natural metabolism is probably faster than your Dad's
since he is older, which may account for the difference in the quickness of your loss.

Congrats on what you've done. :toast:

Are you doing any exercising at all, over and above what was normal for you before?

9. You rule!!
I feel better when I have oatmeal for breakfast, but half the time I have an egg and sausage sandwich.

For lunch I usually do pretty well. I really load up on vegetables. I'm very conscious that whatever I eat for lunch will become the breast-milk that Garrison will have as soon as I get home.

For dinner, I eat with my husband. He hates fish, he always has to have a starch--usually mac and cheese. And we have ice cream almost every night.

If I could cut the breakfast sandwiches and the mac and cheese, and do the ice cream once a week, and find some way to increase my exercise, I think I could drop some weight.

That's really encouraging to hear how well you're doing.

WTG!!

11. Watch the Tuna, though. Mercury. Unless you eat the dark kind.
Even then, I would worry. Flouder or Catfish.

But, you'd have to cook them...cans are easier.

Good luck! Sounds great!

19. It's all about calories
I think the main thing that Atkins does that low protein diets don't is satiate hunger. If you can control yourself, I think low fat diets are more healthy. If you have a hard time being hungry, then low carb diets are probably the way to go.

But the bottom line is that you need to burn more calories than you eat. Counting calories is a great way to at least be aware of what you're putting in your body.

Great work!!!
