8 Year Old Arrested For Temper Tantrum At School
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 12:39 PM by matcom
<snip>

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Police arrested an 8-year-old boy who allegedly had a violent outburst in school, head-butting his teacher and kicking an assistant principal, when he was told he couldn't go outside to play with other students.

The 4-foot pupil was led away from Rawls Byrd Elementary School in handcuffs Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery.

"It's not something that happens every day," Maj. Stan Stout said of what could be the department's youngest arrestee ever.

Stout said the chair-tossing, desk-turning outburst occurred after a teacher, and later the assistant principal, attempted to stop the boy from joining his classmates.

The child was later released to his parents.

Maybe he will get the death penalty, you know how we Virginians appreciate a good lethal injection.

3. It's important to condition them early
A Police State is much easier to run that way. :eyes:

4. I agree, with everyone here, but
where did this kid pick up such behavior? Isn't throwing a chair and overturning a desk a bit severe, or over-reacting?

5. The kid has a problem. It may have been a poorly handled situation.
Even if it's just a lack of appropriate discipline, it's the adults' responsibility to address it in a responsible manner. Often the kid has an emotional/behavioral problem he can't control. This kind of behavior doesn't come out of the blue.

6. I hate to see any child arrested and I have to agree
that this child has a problem that needs to be dealt with by the parents. I'm wondering if this is a way to force the parents to seek help for their family dynamics and for the individual child.

7. Bet he thinks twice before throwing another tantrum.
Sorry, I'm just not outraged by this. I don't think it harmed the kid in any way, but it probably got his attention.

9. Only if he processes this experience in a mature, rational fashion,
gaining useful insight, and then can control his errant behavior. Molly coddling young children who refuse to diagnose, treat, and control their own emotional and behavioral maladies simply is not to be tolerated.

All emotionally confused, behaviorally out of control children should be handcuffed, placed in the back of a police car, and thrown into a jail cell.

I say off with their heads.
