The Most Honest Politician in America is a Democrat
I wasn't aware of Oscar Goodman, mayor of Las Vegas, until this morning when I learned that the elementary-school teachers of Vegas are aghast that Hizzoner told a class of fourth-graders that not only was one of his hobbies "drinking," but that if he was stranded on a desert island, the one thing he'd want with him would be a bottle of gin.

Compare that to Our Great President George W. Bush, who would also want to have a bottle of gin with him on that island but who would tell the children he'd want a Bible.

So I went looking for the Honorable Mayor Goodman, who seems to have come from the East Coast to Vegas with $87 in his pocket back in the 1960s and used that money to become a very successful criminal defense attorney. He was re-elected in 2003 with 86 percent of the vote. He got 64 acres of land in the center city for the public without resorting to eminent domain, has led the revitalization of downtown...and he was instrumental in building the first Class A office built downtown in the last 20 years.

Oscar Goodman could be an entertaining choice for our 2008 presidential candidate. At least he wouldn't be a spineless wimp like a lot of the Democrats we've chosen.

3. How dare you? Bush doesn't drink gin.
He's more of a whiskey sort of guy.

5. Mayor of Las Vegas to president would be quite a leap
but I'm glad he is an honest man.

6. Bush went from do-nothing "governor" to president
That was a severe leap, seeing as how his only official duties were presenting the State of the State Address to the Lege and signing death warrants.

8. Signing all those death warrants is hard work.
High risk of handcramps.

7. Yeah. I'm not sure running the mayor of Sin City
would win a lot of red states...

Ahh well.
