It is unofficial St. Patrick's day in town and it totally sucks ass!
Because the real holiday happens during spring break the local bars decided to promote an early observance of the holiday. People have been drinking since 8AM and when I went down to the usual bar where my friends and I meet on fridays there was a 50 foot line to get in. Stupid holiday!

2. They're doing quite well at faking it.
People in Green, loud and rowdy drunkeness. The St. Pat's spirit is alive and well in Champaign Illinois

3. Horse hockey
Can't be faked... those of us akin to the true day would know the difference.

Imagine celebrating the FOurth of July on the 10 of May.

4. I think you should come here and see it before passing such judgment
There are roughly 30,000 people out tonight who are doing their best to make today st pats day. Theodor Herzl's statement, “If you will it, it is no dream” seems to be the dominant credo today

5. Imagine celebrating July 4th on May 10th
I need not check it out. My Irish blood is becoming hotter by the second as I think of a bunch of people treating my culture as it's just a bunch of drunks. Pat's Day means more!

6. Why don't you get all pissed off and come down and fight the people...

over it? That'll dispell the stereotypes.

Besides July 4th had to be moved up so it would be before St. Boniface's day on June 5th

8. They'll be home (most of them in the Chicago suburbs) on the real day
Which is exactly why they are celebrating now

12. If you think Irish culture gets mistreated here, you should see our mascot
Illini logo

Actually, I didn't think the logo was so bad. But then I went to a football game and saw this guy dance up and down the field during the halftime show. That was some messed up shit.

Also there for basketball

10. That's ridiculous
It's like when they move Halloween to another night because it falls on a Sunday. They've actually done that around here a few times but the kids rake in pretty good because they trick or treat two nights in a row :)

11. I see a difference
Moving halloween has very different motives. St pats is moved "unofficially" because the bars don't want to miss all the revenue that will be gone on the real day because the students will be on break. Meanwhile the students have an interest in being able to get ripped with their college chums at any and every opportunity
