16. No autoimmune problems
I do have an immune compromise issue, in that I do not have a spleen, but I have been without that organ since 1987, and it is only recently that I keep getting pneumonia.

26. yup
I miss Jim Henson.

I also have asthma, which I guess predisposes me to pneumonia, but it's only been during the past year that I am having problems.

28. Henson had toxic shock syndrome from a strep infection
bacterial that he let go on too long before he sought treatment.

Like total body strep poisoning. Had he sought treatment sooner, antibiotics could have stopped it.

18. BINGO!
I haven't been sick in ten years, and this year I have been taking care of my three year old grandson who goes to daycare once a week. When I go into his daycare "school" every kid is coughing and oozing green stuff out of every orifice. If you look closely enough, you can actually see a green vapor hanging over all of their little heads. Well, long story short, my grandson and I were diagnosed with pneumonia before Christmas along with the rest of the family and we have been passing it back and forth for three and half months. Vicious germs out there this year!

21. I have just gotten over the flu and there's a lot of that
going around too. I have never gotten the flu shots and haven't had it in probably ten or more years. Also I am hearing of a person I know, who at his place, 3 people in a 4 person dept all are in the hospital with pneumonia. I don't know what is happening this year. LOts of people are getting sick with exotic stuff this year. And I mean pneumonia is exotic as it is so severe. And I know about people passing it around, back and forth. Yes, that is very easy to do. I hope you are feeling better.

17. What's your doctor think about this?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 12:46 AM by LeftCoast
I'm in school to become an RN, so reading your post really concerned me. I hope you get better soon, and don't get it again!!!

On edit: Just wanted to add that it sounds like you may just be relapsing, never having fully recovered. Please take care!

19. It is possible
I start to feel better, then I push it!

My doctor is almost as confused as I am, I may be referred to an infectious disease specialist next.

20. I do hope you go
At this point your system is pretty depleted so you're at greater risk of developing infections and other illnesses besides the possibility of getting yet another bout of pneumonia.

Off to watch SciFi Friday :D Get better soon!

I am so tired of being sick. I know part of it is the immune compromise issue, but shit...we gotta find a way to bolster my immunity, I have kids for goddess' sake.

23. did you lose your spleen due to ITP?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 01:17 AM by auntAgonist
I did. pneumovax every 5 years. Now the Dr says they only give it once per lifetime. hmmm. I'll ask another DR. I've had pneumonia about 4 times in the last 15 years. Healthy these last few though.

hope you get to feeling better soon.

27. Not a question, just a suggestion.
I had recurring, unexplained ear infections for about six months. Coincedentally, I got checked for low thyroid at the end of that six month period, and it turned out my thyroid wasn't functioning properly. Since I started getting properly medicated, the ear infections have gone away for 6 years now.

May want to look into it, your thyroid can play havoc with your ability to fight off infections.
