Poll question: Best Pierce Brosnan as James Bond film?
http://www.imdb.com/poll/

Amusing results. I was torn to vote between Goldeneye or "didn't like any of them". If Goldeneye had been like the suspenseful teaser trailer instead of an unfunny farce, it's just possible that the Brosnan films would be held in higher regard. But this poll proves the point that eye candy degenerates over time far more quickly than plot or character; Goldeneye being the only one that comes close to being a Bond-style flick...

More, Casino Royale is to be the next Bond flick. Great, a remake of a camp comedy that's a remake of a 1950s CBS TV special. :eyes:

1. Die Another Day
Die Another Day was a great Bond movie and that one got my vote. I liked Goldeneye too, but it wasn't as good as Die Another Day. Die Another Day had everything you would want in a Bond movie and Brosnan was great.

3. I half-agree:
The first half of D.A.D., just as with Moonraker, is very well done. I almost believed that the Bond producers brought the Bond franchise back down to Earth; ditching silly gadgets and pompous stunts for a suspenseful plot and characters that aren't dime-a-dozen stereotypes.

Whoops.

Once the sci-fi stuff crept in, I knew it'd only get more and more silly. Especially with the revelation of the main baddie. (Good henchman, but they killed him off WAY too quickly. They must've thought that they didn't want any suspense in the end after all.)

Also, a lot of D.A.D. was merely taking scenes from other Bond movies and shoving them in at every opportunity. It worked because (a) they were tastefully done, and (b) D.A.D. was the 40th anniversary story. For an anniversary story this is certainly fine, but I reeeeeeeeeeeeally don't want to see that happen again until the 50th anniversary story. :-)

Brosnan was indeed good in it, I will admit that.

Nevermind the consistent camerawork throughout that must've been made in mind for people with ADHD or the MTV generation. Many times the style just got annoying. And I have ADD.

And Halle Berry? I'd even put Talisa Soto on the list of "good Bond girl actresses". But even in 2003, it seems obvious that Bond girls are meant to be pretty and have no other point so it doesn't matter if the lady has any talent or not. Just look pretty. (Talisa's character had something of a integral point, but the acting was extremely wooden in most of her scenes, which is a pity.)

2. Goldeneye by a mile.....
after a 6 year Bond hiatus...it was great to have it back and I think its a lot darker than his subsequent efforts...plus Natalya Fyodorovna Simonova is super hot.

5. Quite. And the reason for that hiatus:
Goldeneye, especially with 3 films following it, proves to be the darkest. Despite its excessive inclusion of silly characters and dialogue, I had real hopes for it and I still love the basic plot ideas; it just wasn't done as well as it could have been.

In 1989, MGM and EON Productions battled over who owned the rights to the franchise. Many have spun the hiatus saying it was Dalton's fault, but that was totally false.

As I recall, EON won it in 1994. Timothy Dalton also reliquished the role voluntarily in that year (or was it 1993 when he dropped the role?). His next film, amusingly, was "Beautician and the Beast", co-starring Fran "Nasal" Drescher. Dalton, a Shakespearian actor of high calibre reduced to making pompous moron movies with American sitcom stars. :scared: Almost seems too ghastly to contemplate!

6. I liked Timothy Dalton...
because I thought he made Bond Darker as well.

License to Kill is one of my favorite Bond films......

I remember one of my friends saying the 6 year hiatus was because they had to think of some new bad guys after the Berlin wall fell.

:D :D lol

4. Famke Jannsen
She tilted me towards Goldeneye. Though I thought Pierce Brosnan was a bit stiff in that one.

I suspect the new Casino Royale will be closer to the Ian Fleming novel and regular Bond films than the David Niven/Woody Allen Bond.

7. That remains to be seen.
That is, the new Casino Royalle being more flemingesque than the 1967 comedy. (the Brosnan flicks themselves seem badly camped up that I'd hate to make an assumption this early on. :7 )
