Poll question: Dysfunctional Family Circus

"Janey's mom is too cheap to pay a vet's bill so we're gonna neuter him ourselves.--Rich Coughlan"

Funniest shit ever, or what?

1. I used to love that site
I think you can still find some archives around, but I used to go there all the time. Some of those were pretty damned funny.

2. Are these the same people who came up with the two little boys...
Jeffy and what ever the other ones name is...

One boy hits the other and he's laying on the ground.
Mom is standing over them and he exclaims;

"I'm Rick James bitch!"

I love it.

3. Somebody HAS to help Bil Keane write humor
I think senility has gotten the better of him.
One of these days "Little Billy" is going to have to take the pens and the car keys away from him and put him in a home.

I'll probably catch hell for this one:

6. I doubt Bil Keane has ever been funny
When I was in college in the late 80s, I was doing some research for some paper or other. I was going thru the microfiche from 1968, looking for an article, and I stumbled across the funnies.

The Family Circus was there, and it was as dumb in 1968 as it is today. I don't think it's ever been very good, AFAIK.

However, the above cartoon is hi-freakin'-larious!!! :D

7. I read somewhere that Bill Keane is apparently...
...a bawdy, hilarious, irreverant guy. He's often the keynote speaker at cartoonest conventions, and he's rumoured to bring down the house with his "blue" humour.

He just found a profitable niche and stuck with it. He's the "Pat Boone" of newspaper cartooning.

8. I would think it unimaginable.....But I'll take your word for it.
I always assumed that Keane just sat in the living room and drew what he saw.
Of course I know that he's older, but I figured that was at least a mental image of his life in the 60s or 70s.

As a theory, what if that's drawn on a scenario of his life as a kid in the cold war era, and he draws it because no newspaper would be able to print a 'toon of his real life?

Maybe I'm reaching here.

His dad handed over the strip to him a long time ago.
Here's one of the old man's toons from the 40s;
