Ohio State Issues Apology To Wisconsin Quarterback

COLUMBUS, Ohio: Ohio State linebacker Robert Reynolds has issued an apology to Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi and to Badger coach Barry Alvarez following Saturday's game in Madison.

"I talked to Coach Alvarez and to Jim Sorgi earlier today and apologized for my actions," said Reynolds, a senior from Bowling Green, Kentucky. "I lost my poise and there is no excuse for that. That is certainly not characteristic of Ohio State football. I take full responsibility for my action. As a senior, I have a responsibility to set a better example."

"I have had an opportunity to talk with Coach Alvarez and have apologized on behalf of Ohio State and Rob Reynolds," said Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel. "Having spent the past three years with Rob, I truly believe this is an isolated incident and out of character for him. He has apologized to me and is willing to accept the consequences of his behavior."

I wonder what those consequences will be. I'm glad that OSU isn't ignoring this. We'll see about the consequences, though.

Will the linebacker agree not to play until the injured quarterback can play again?

wouldn't that be amazing! almost as if it was a sport or something.

My knee-jerk reaction was that he should be kicked off the team. I don't think that will happen, and maybe that's fine, now that I've calmed down a bit over the whole thing.

I would think multiple games, though.

8. Several games sounds right
But certainly back in time for Ann Arbor.

That incident was a huge topic all over the college football forums on the internet today. I'm surprised it didn't get more play on TV on Sunday, especially considering the high profile of the OSU program coming off a title year and with the Clarett situation ongoing. I suspect that if the backup QB had screwed up and lost the game, there would have been an outcry from Madison and much more TV coverage.

The apology sounds sincere enough.

A long time ago...especially in the NHL where a certain few dirty players go after people's knees.

4. he stuck his fingers
into the neck area of the wisconsin qb after the play was over. the gb had problems sallowing and couldn`t talk. it is nice that they had the class to apologizise to wisconsin and the player. consequences?the back-up qb won the game with a pass that ohio state never thought the guy would throw let alone complete.

6. One of the most disgusting things I have seen in sports.
He was just flat trying to smash the guys windpipe in.

They have to suspend the guy.

9. that's a bit harsh...
i mean, considering the long and storied past of evil deeds performed by defensive players; maiming, gouging, bone-snapping...i'm not excusing the dirtiness of his deeds but face it: if he were kicked off of the OSU team tomorrow, Tampa Bay and Oakland would start the bidding wars to get him in their camps next Spring...

Reynold's actions were shameful and disgusting! Two to three games' suspension, minimum.

Good enough. The guy lost his cool in the heat of the moment. Sorgi's tough, he'll bounce back. The apology was definatly heartfelt and the right thing to do. The kid should be suspended for a couple of games and then we'll all put this isolated ugly incident behind us. The worst thing to do is to overreact and blow the issue up more.

fishnfla is a 1986 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, a fine LIBERAL institution. Go Badgers. Buckeyes, congrats on a great run and winning the NC last year.

I'm a Buckeye transplanted from northern Illinois, but I did manage to waste a good part of my youth at the bars in Madison. Madison is a great town and UWM is a great university.

Hey, they don't call it the People's Republic of Dane County for nothing!

Nice post. Putting this mess behind us is obviously what's best for both teams. I don't know yet what OSU does, but even if Sorgi's tough, that doesn't mean Reynolds needs suspended for awhile. How long? I don't know, and I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

As for the other stuff, thanks. Good luck to the Badgers for the rest of the season.
