"I do what I want!" (clonk): The customer of the day
The floor in a Home Depot is very, very hard. It contains especially hard gravel and chemicals to make it harder than normal concrete, and is laid in a process which involves repeatedly driving a steamroller over the wet concrete to make it even harder. It needs to be that hard to survive years of heavy-equipment traffic.

Since the floor is so hard, we are trained to be especially vigilant for children hanging off the front of shopping carts; when we see one, we're supposed to ask the parent to get the child off the cart. They can ride in the cart or walk; either one is safe.

Today I saw a woman pushing a cart around the store with a kid hanging off the front. As per my training, I told her that kids get hurt in these places by falling off carts, and asked her to have him either ride in the cart or walk.

"No, I do what I want." Real snotty tone of voice, looking straight at me.

It was at that point that the kid took the opportunity to fall off the cart. He only landed on his ass, no damage suffered.

One second later, his mother (being preoccupied with giving me dirty looks for doing my duty) took the opportunity to run him over.

And two seconds after that, the woman started screaming...at the kid! For falling off the cart and getting run over!

Yes, I had to immediately go outside for the mandatory side-splitting belly laughs.

2. You've gotta write a book!
Editing out the name of the business, of course. Anyone who's ever worked retail will especially love it.

4. Normally I hate kids at the store where I work
We have stupid kiddie carts, so they run around like little maniacs crashing into things (such as me). Well, over the weekend, an adult knocked over a casestack display of Mac & Cheese. Another coworker called him on and he just said, "Yeah, I know. I saw it," and walked away.

She goes to get me to put it back together. I was stuck doing something else, but it was going to be the next thing for me to do.

In the meantime, a customer is in there with FIVE small children. She was up at the deli counter & her kids were in the back aisle. She came back, saw her kids by the fallen boxes of mac & cheese and made them put it back together. By the time I got over there, a team of children ages 3-6 had reassembled my display. It rocked.

The kids were probably saying, "But Mom, we didn't knock it over!"

5. My Policy:
The clerk is always right.
Well, OK, I'm only thinking about this new policy.
