HOW do you STOP this SH*T??
I have McAfee Firewall and virus protection. I just ran Registry Mechanic and it found over 100 bad guys on a 'deep scan'? BESIDES installing Firefox what else can I do to protect the computer...I have not run the OTHER 4 adwares programs I have!

1. Spyware Blaster is a pre-emptive
and is good in addition to Ad Aware and Spybot.

4. In Firefox, make sure "Allow Sites to Install Software" is not checked.
Only check it during the times you need it.

5. Try Spyware Blaster
Its a program that shields you computer from spyware. Its excellent, onece installed it run on its own and best of all its free. They usually update at LEAST once a month sometimes more. Now it wont stop everything, especially with the way the programmers keep coming up with new spyware but if you keep up with the updates you should have no more than 5 or 6 a week to take care of with your remover.

6. Mac or Linux, or...
just live with the shit. One of the geek emags I get says the common spyware programs get only half of the nasties, if that much.

Firefox, btw, has had its own security problems, as has my favorite-- Opera. Checking for the upgrades is a given. At least they have security upgrades, though, which is nice.

A lot of those nasties found in the registry might simply be false positives and dead entries. My registry is hopeless from all the installs and uninstalls I've done over the years. Seems nobody wants to write a program that cleans up after itself.
