What are the Lounge Lizzards listenning to?
Over here, we have one of the great masterpieces of 20th cenutry classical music: the Turangalila Symphony by Olivier Messiaen.

A stunning work, pretty literally stunning. There is widespread use of the Ondes Martinot, which is an early form of the synthesiser and makes a bizzare somewhat ethereal addition. It has the ability to slide up and down the scale, as well as playing descrete notes; pity it's not more widely known.

With grateful thanks to my office-mates who are not in today, thus allowing music to fill the air.:bounce:

3. I'm not familiar with the music
But 1979 was a very fine year indeed, among the august events taking place I popped out into the world.

6. Pretty good band.
"1979" is my favorite song of their's. If you download some of their music, I suggest "Today" and "Tonight, Tonight". I could suggest more, but I'm not sure if they are your cup of tea.

5. I'll have t look into that
I love quite a few works of Oliver Messiaen. I have been neglecting music for a while. I rather feel like Shostakovich's 5th Symphony today, it so matches the mood of our country at this time.

However, in mid-March I always crave a listen to the 'Rite of Spring'.

7. An Artist's Creative Response to Just Criticism?
I also love Shotakovich's less known 4th Symphony.

I would heartily recommend Turangalila, the name is from the Hindi for 'love-song'. I had unknowingly heard "Joie du sang des etoiles" (the joy of the blood of the stars) a few times, and first heard the whole symphony during a Proms concert a few years ago - I was hooked immediately.

I'm not sure about where you are, but with our weather the Stravinsky would still be a little bit over optimistic.

8. Marianne Faithfull's 'Before The Poison'
Outstanding cd, and well worthy of the creator of 'Broken English'. Co-produced and co-written by Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Damon Albarn.

part is that I didn't notice it for a good couple of beats. Completely wrecked my Disney Grumpy nightshirt. :)

</hijack> was done rather smoothly I'd say. ;)

18. That's what I normally get
Or rather the mixed sounds of wall-mounted heater, and a smaller fan-heater used by one of my office-mates.

Today both of the others are away, meaning that the temperature can be kept below 90, and that I can play music to my little heart's content.

27. Two beautiful sounds:
The silence of morning before anyone else has their slacker ass out of bed.

And the delightful peeps of my new baby chicks next door in the bathtub.

In the past few weeks the birds have started singing again as I walk to work; a beautiful start to the day (though I'm usually to dopey to pay much attention).

30. It is a sweet sound
I've never raised chickens from babes before, but we are really enjoying them.

Lucky for me, my neighbors raise fowl, so one called me yesterday afternoon to laugh at me and offered to trade chicks. We did a chick swap, and I ended up with a Golden Campine and a couple of the easter egg hens ( they lay green, blue and brown eggs.) I'm as happy as a little girl...( Who remembers where that line came from?)

But your music sounds good, too. Glad you can have some culture and beauty in your workday!

31. Doesn't that make you an anti-American traitor?
Now that Cat Stevens has converted to Islam.

The large amount of French music in my collection certainly gets me on that list...
