I was waiting for my bus after work yesterday & I noticed

someone had taped a piece of paper to the bus shelter. Written on the paper was "Support our national language, no English, no purchase." Help me come up with something I can post over these.

Slap them with an American icon whenever possible. Remind them what America is instead letting them project their own twisted, perverted bigotry on this great nation! They must really hate America to be so hateful and xenophobic. Remind them they probably had family that came here from somewhere else.

I think that "What?" in Spanish

And highlight the banner in its mouth that reads, "E Pluribus Unum."

our daughter different languages. Nothing major right now (she is 3) but please, the Victorians prided themselves on their knowledge of other cultures and language. Many could read and write Greek from antiquity. Now we can't teach anything to our children other than "Hey you are a hottie?". Thats really teaching them something isn't it?. I would put a response up with a card for your local library. Tell them to research history and the many people who have come here to make up the beautiful fabric of the United States.

Talk about English skills! That sign is so ambiguously written that you don't know whether it means "I won't buy from anyone who doesn't speak English" or "I won't sell to anyone who doesn't speak English."

I've been in a lot of stores and restaurants run by immigrants, and while I've run into poor English, I've never run into NO English. If the legal owners of the business don't speak English well enough to interact with customers, they usually put one of their children or another young bilingual member of their ethnic community out front.

It is simply unreasonable to expect an immigrant storekeeper to understand the slack-jawed, ungrammatical mumbling of the type of person who would write such a sign.

And I can't imagine a business owner telling paying customers who are standing at the counter with merchandise and money in hand that they should get out and not buy anything. Monolingual American tourists impose themselves on stores in foreign countries all the time, and I've actually seen them get mad at storekeepers who don't speak English (in a non-English-speaking country).

Given the ambiguity of the statement on the sticker, I'd be tempted to add, "Learn to write proper English yourself."

Help eradicate ignorance. Kill a republican.

I live in a very red state. If that was not already obvious.
