Here is the situation. Non profit community radio station. Hired GM oversees small staff. Board of Directors sets policy, hires GM. Board is partially elected by members of foundation. (membership is determined by donated of at least $35)
Election time: Paid staff, the "membership director" who has access to all kinds of info, including who donated for what programs, did targeted mailings promoting candidates that he wanted.
Challengers only had access to mailing list, no data on donations, program preferences etc.
Employee supposedly did this on his own time, as a "member" like any other member has the same right, but nevertheless used info regular members did not have access to.
GM claims he has no say over what "member"/employee does on his own time. (employee also is well known name "on air" to membership)
Should he be fired? Just unethical but not illegal? Punished? Given a bonus for "saving" the station from "outsiders"? Any comments?
