Is Michael Jackson Really Invading DU Now? Oh Jesus!

I can't believe I am looking at multiple Michael Jackson threads. I come here to get away from just that type of non-news. We're apparently on the verge of posting on who the hell got kicked off of "Survivor" Of "American Idol". DU has always been a No Peterson, No Kobe, No Michael Blog and I love it for that.

Are we slipping into the same inane distractions that plague Americans in general While over one hundred thousand Iraqis are dead, The country is run by an evil cabal, and Osama runs and hides?

Maybe it is just me. Am I the only one that finds that discussing Michael Jackson is a total waste of bandwidth?

Semi-fair point. I was not posting on his case though. I was posting on how sad it is that DUers even give a shit about such trivialities in a world gone mad.

Are there more important things in the world? Sure. But I'm pretty sure YOU don't spend every minute of every day solving world hunger. Everybody has their own interests. Personally, I think sports is a huge waste of time, but far more Americans spend far more time watching sports than celebrity trials.

The fact is, this case is interesting to a lot of people. Michael Jackson is one of the most famous people in the world, and his being accused of child-molestation is newsworthy.

It also relates to issues of how our justice system addresses wealth, fame, race and other important issues.

I guess at this point I could be thought of as a full time activist. I certainly am putting more than 40 hours a week into these days.

I agree completely with you assessment of sports. What a total freaking waste of time! Although I'd have a hard time deciding what was less personally interesting sports or celebrity trials.

However, as this is not my site, I guess I really have no place bitching.

Just that I get so frustrated when you can't get any real news because all that is available is wall to wall MJ, or some other story that really affects no one outside the story. I have always found DU mostly free of those type of stories, a fact I found appealing.

Not that there isn't plenty of stuff I post that no one else is interested in.

And like you said, there is always the ignore button. I've never used it. But, Michael Jackson is as good a reason as any!

It is disturbing to see the law ignored by the "glitterati" time and time again....especially by a mentally ill circus-freak like Jacko. It does no one any good, including him, to shelter him from the psychiatric help he so desperately needs.
