any Network Engineers here in DU?
This summer I want to go back to college and get an Associates' Degree in iT, seocifically Network Enginering :-) I want to add a technical skill set to go laong with my Japanes language skills, and if I really like, perhaps go for a BS in IT too. I'm not going to worry about any certification right now, the important thing is to show that I really WANT to learn about Netowrking and do my very best! The certificates can wait, until whoever ants to give me an internship or job the proper time to do so. So any advice would be appreciated :-)

1. Take your cert tests right after each particular course in college.
You'll never know the material that well again. A lot of stuff you learn, you never use on the job, so you won't get reinforcement at work, and you'll soon forget it. The cert tests are expensive and you don't want to have to retake them multiple times in order to pass.

2. would my future employer help pay for the cert tests?
ad how much are the cert tests anyway? Most likely the first one I'll take will be for XP Pro and/or XP Server...

3. The tests are $125. If you fail the first time, you can retake the
test right away for another $125, but if you fail it twice, you have to wait a month to take it again. Your employer may pay for the tests, it depends on what level of education assistance they have. Most small shops won't pay, but the larger the company you work for, the more chance you have that they will cover the cost.
